Well, they did fix that in Star Wars Episode 7: Strong Independent Female Protagonist

Look, I won't mind there being African or female characters. Every race and gender has equal right to be a character as whites and males

HOWEVER. SJWs, DO NOT beat it over our heads that there is a female protagonist, or you will make me hate her. DO NOT beat it over our heads that there is a African protagonist, or you will make me hate him too.

Do not mention it, he's just a character like anyone else. Do not make it some kind of Social Justice victory, do not make it some kind of /pol/ defeat.

Except they did a brilliant double take with the advertising, where they didn't make it at all obvious that she would be the protag to me.

I mean, I may be a little dense, but I walked into that movie expecting Finn to be the protag for the next 2 episodes. Didn't see Rey being the force sensitive one at all. And they don't make a big deal about it.

They just wanted to open up Star Wars to women.

I think they don't intend to have a MAIN character per se. I think they intend of to have a bunch of main characters be reflections, or facets, of the good guy. Basically the pilot dude, Fin, and Rey are all going to be equally responsible as main characters.

Does that make sense?

It's not? I haven't watched episodes 1,2,3,5,6 so I could see how I could be fooled

I thought it was a pretty obvious bait and switch

Wouldn't it be worse to basically play ads more or less pandering to the women? They put ads out there with just general Star Wars goodstuff and the movie was that, just happening to have a diverse cast of people?

Daisy - Good actress
John Boyega - Good Actor
Lupita Nyongo - Great actress
Oscar Isaac - Fantastic actor.

They did a great job casting, and the movie was great. The female was just as much a main character as the male. Where's the bait and switch?

I meant in that the trailers made it seem as if Finn was going to be the new jedi main character

The first inkling of "this character is a jedi" happened for both Rey and Fin when they piloted/gunned the Falcon. Neither of them have any reason to know how to be that proficient, yet they both were.

Secondly, I am positing that Rey was more astute as the Jedi because she's likely Luke's daughter and had youngling training, plus Obi-Wan force ghost whispers taught her mind tricks.

What I'm saying is I wouldn't be the least surprised if Fin ends up being a force-sensitive as well, based on the movie.

you say that almost like an insult. Rey is cool ,i like her.

Look, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they tried to push some ******** "strong womyn" agenda with her, but if you like Rey you're almost objectively wrong in your opinion.

She could probably have been fine had the movie had actual writers, but instead she's some super emo mary sue.

she is a boring mary sue.

Rey was good, but speaking of women in that movie, Gwendoline Christie was completely wasted. I hope they do more with her in future installments.

True that. She could have been replaced by any generic CO for all the good her role did, but hopefully she's survived for the next one.

oh yer undoubtedly. but i feel like she's getting the bobba fet treatment. does jack **** when introduced, but in the later films does some seriously bad ass **** .
User avatar #23 to #7 - Bobtheblob (01/10/2016) [-]
When did Boba Fett do anything bad ass in later films? He was introduced in 5, had like 5 minutes of screen time. Then was immediately killed by a temporarily blind guy in the first 5 minutes of the next film.

Well, in one comic that remained canon, he managed to fight and almost kill Luke some time before Episode 5, and only gave up because somebody (implied to be Obi-Wan's spirit) intervened from the shadows.

But other than that, all he has going for him out of the films are Clone Wars and the Holiday Special, and neither of those do him any favors.

I like Boba, but you're right. Phasma has more screentime and lines in TFA than Boba had in the entire original trilogy.
