Did it bother anyone else that the only death JJ could make me actually care about was a character that someone else had already made me love?
I just feel like JJ couldn't build up a character enough for me to care about his/her death and had to use one of the characters from the original trilogy to deliver the punch.

They had one movie, while the original triology had three.
I mean, do you really think they can accomplish the same in one movie as the other could in three movies?
Plus what did you expect? for them to kill off one of the main protagonists in the first movie?
Solo is the Obi Wan Kenobi of this movie. Shows up, says wise stuff, teaches stuff and gets killed off so our main characters can get a lot more focus in the next movie.

Yeah but I cared about Obi Wan and he was introduced in the same movie that he dies in. Han was a cheap gut shot by killing off a character that JJ really didn't do anything to make me care about. I wouldn't have given a **** about any of the new characters dying because JJ didn't manage to build them up like Obi Wan or even Han.
I loved the movie until that point, at which time i just felt like the movie turned to **** plot-wise. It annoys me that a person whose entire character development happened during this movie killed my favorite character. But maybe thats just my extended universe fanboyism kicking in.

Han knew he was gonna get killed, but he had grown tired of living. Good riddance. Douche never paid on his debts

Never ashamed of it. That's why I don't deny the pain I feel.
When it showed Leia after Han got stabbed, my heart exploded.
I was really disappointed they didn't do anything with Chewie when he got to base, like he just walks off and past Leia into the crowd of people cheering. It only looks like Leia and Rey were the only ones upset over it. Also, I'm upset they didn't do anything funny between Han and 3PO like in the originals Han would always mess around with 3PO, but the only bit they had together was then Han and Leia saw each other and he came up talking. I think they could've done it better
Yeah but I literally said what's in the content, the only thing I spoiled was chewie screaming
Come on, it cant be spoilers, after so long.. its almost a month, it camt out.
Yeah I agree, Han was spoiled until the end of time. The only thing that shocked me was when I saw the spoiled gif instead of text.
But Chewbacca's reaction for some reason turned my entire opinion around and made me care for him. I always found him to be the big dumb ******* ape of the originals.

Yeah I knew what was going to happen going into it so when Han started walking towards him I was like, "oh here we go", but when it happened and Chewie screamed out in rage at his best and closest friend of so many years dying right in front of him I got a little bit chocked up. Personally I'm glad I had it spoiled for me before I saw it because it made so many things better like Han and Chewie walking into the Falcon for the first time in so long, Han saying bye to Leia, all that sort of stuff
