She actually is a descendent of Bastilla Shan and Revan. I can´t remember her first name though. I don´t play knights of the old republic, but I do know that Revan makes an appearance, so she technically has a chance to meet her grandfather or greatgrandfather.

I didn't realize that Revan's and Bastilla's romance was canon, awesome, she was the best romance option of all RPGs I've played. Liara and Tali are okay too, but Dragon Age totally fucked up with romance partners.

It's called Revan (shocker!!!) and it's quite a good read. If Kights of the Old Republic interested you, be sure to check this book out.

Revan is my favorite Star Wars character. Although I only know the characters from the Old Republic and the fall of the empire. Everything after Vader's death is probably buttocks or fanfic

I've read a few books that are set after Episode VI, and I really enjoyed them. Especially "Legacy of the Force", which tells the story of Han and Leia's oldest son becoming a sith and everything that revolves around it. Really interesting, especially because Boba Fett plays a big role and he's my favorite character.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, don't automatically think everything outside the standard films is rubbish or fanfic. Just read something and if you don't like it, you put the book away. But I'm sure you'll get hooked to some books.

Seriously, this shit is pretty epic. If you come across them somewhere, just buy one (it'll belike, max 10 dollars) and start reading. I read those books while on vacation in Canada and it was the best vacation ever.

It just seems too repetetive, I mean, good guy becomes a bad guy because of passion, love, power, etc.

Although it's cool that Luke named his son Ben, if that's canon, I don't know much about anything after the movies because I've read a couple of things and I never seem to know if it is canon or pure fanfic :(

It's all canon. But what's interesting in the legacy of the force series is that when the good guy becomes the bad guy (Jacen) he's still seen as a hero of the republic. So he's only a bad guy for a few people. And the books tell about how each member of the solo/skywalker family handles this situation. So it's not just a story about a jedi simply turning sith. If you think about it, it's not that repetitive. I mean, what do we know about the other sith stories? Darth Sidious? Almost nothing more than the bits he tells. Darth Vader? His story was also vague untill the prequels, and there he just turns very suddenly in episode 3.

The difference between Jacen's story and that of his grandfather (Vader), is that Vader was a cyborg sith lord with no real close family or friends who was just know as Darth Vader to the whole galaxy (no one knew he was Anakin Skywalker). Whereas with Jacen, everyone knows who he his and he has alot of close family members who each deal differently with his turning to the dark side.

What I'm trying to say is that yes, the good guy turning bad but the good side winning in the end is repetitive, but that's in alot of movies/books. There is so much more going on in these books. And the best part is, you don't even need alot of background. If something happened in previous books that you need to know of, it is explained to you briefly so you can understand it.

Also, the series consists of 9 books, written by 3 writers, each writing in turn. This is great, because each has his/her own way of writing. For example, Karen Traviss has also written a serie called Republic Commando, which takes place in the clone wars and revolves around a squad of rebublic commandos (also a very good read, I recommend it). In these books alot of mandalorian culture is discussed, so Traviss books in Legacy of the force deal with the Boba
Fett story line.

Oh yeah, it was Yoda. This has to be the reason that some people hate the prequels.

Maybe Yoda decided absolutes weren't so bad after his entire order was killed.

I guess you could argue that these two quotes relate to completely different things.

Yoda's philosophy of "there is no try" refers to using the Force, telling Luke that in order to truly become a Jedi, you must completely immerse yourself in the Force and free your mind from the limits of physical being to gain abilities that would normally be impossible.

Whereas Obi-Wan's theory of only Sith dealing in absolutes refers to loyalties and allegiances, showing that only the Sith would ever have such a narrow-minded view of the World, seeing people only as enemies if they dare to challenge their views on the way of the galaxy.

Or you can just step away from the Council and its Order. There are all kinds of rouge Jedi. Even a whole realm of Gray Jedi, whom traverse all regions of the force without giving into the Dark side temptations or the boundaries of the Light.

Darth Revan is the absolute perfect example of middle ground.

Not counting KOTOR's odd portrayal of him, Darth Revan is a Jedi-Turned-Sith lord who ended being able to completely control both the Dark and Light sides of the force.

His master Kreia (AKA Darth Traya) taught him that to understand the Force in its purest form, one must view both Dark and Light not as labels, but as pieces of a whole. She taught him that their is not actually sides of the force, but just the Force as one entity. Her teachings also made him realize that by helping people, he makes them weak, and by being cruel, he becomes weak as well, in the sense that his power will eventually corrupt and destroy him.

What he ended up becoming was a force user who used kindness when those he met had no hope otherwise, and cruelty when it would cause those around him to become stronger, since Trayas teachings showed that conflict makes people strong and isolation and inaction makes people weak.

While he was still a sith lord in name, he was infact Jedi and Sith, and in the end was as true neutral as any character in Star Wars lore had ever been.

That is one reason why I take the counter in some arguments, it either shows people that they are not entirely sure on their choice so they look for a better one or will strengthen their current one through there defense of it.

In essence his point is:

Revan--"Fuck you, you go get the gas can."

Only if the man was weak physically and it was a long distance/heavy can, if he was physically weaker he would go get the can and exercise with is all the way back while running. there is also the mental/spiritual points but this example leads to very few.

Looking back at this after getting some sleep, I feel really stupid.

It's kind of like the mages in Dragon Age... There's a huge amount of power and potential there, so people are terrified of the repercussions of letting it go unhindered. So the Jedi order is there to train force-users to only uphold good in all things, so that they don't have to risk being ostracized by the universe at large.
And most people are happy to keep it that way, because in the event that force users demand "freedom", it's usually because they've fallen to the dark side. Because complete power corrupts completely, it's not often that powerful force-users remain truly neutral. As in, you're not likely to find a dude just chilling, using the force to levitate beers from the kitchen and his lightsaber to trim the hedges.
Sadly, we can't risk leaving Jedi completely out of check because of the power they could wield against the galaxy and further... Not only that, but many people confuse the Jedi order with a sort of religion, when it's more like Bhuddism -- just a system of beliefs, meditation, and a goal of complete peace with oneself inside and out.

The jedi become less extreme later on, when Luke's in charge, but that doesn't always turn out well (jason solo). I guess there are always a few individuals who, despite extreme or lenient codes find themselves on a dark path.

The jedi try and guide these individuals with knowledge and control, while the dark side only teaches aggresion and a lust for power.

Guidance is good in the beginning, which is what the jedi do good. However, the jedi need to learn to let go when guidance is no longer actively needed.

Both philosophies have their thuths and lies, but following the jedi code will eventually make you a (somewhat) better person than the sith code.

Dooku is just a jedi turned sith. A better example would be Darth Revan, who was a jedi tunred sith, then became a jedi again and later on reagaining his full knowledge of te force both light and dark.

You play him on his quest to find the Star Forge (powerful giant spacestation) and his path to redemption.

It's a really good game and cheap as hell ow, so if you see it in the store just buy it and play it. It's fun to play and it will give you a whole new insight in various aspects of the star wars universe (like the jedi and sith).

But the major difference between Revan and Dooku is that Dooku has rejected the light side in favor of the "more powerful" dark side, whereas Revan returned to the light, but acknowledges the jedi have their flaws. And he doesn't shy away from the dark side, but knows it is not a good path to follow.

Hm. Sounds reasonable. I'll be sure to check that game out.
