G.L. is actually quite a nice guy IMHO, but he's not the best movie maker. He's excellent at creating deep and believable universes, but he's not the best at creating characters. He can also get fixated on ideas that he thinks would be great and shoehorn them into the story regardless of whether or not they fit well. He used to rely on outside help (good writers/directors) to make up for his character creation issues and to help him weed out his bad ideas, but after Empire Strikes Back I feel like the success went to his head and now he acts like his ideas are beyond reproach.
Case in point: it was Lucas that (almost literally) forced the ideas of aliens in Indiana Jones 4 down Steven Spielberg's throat. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Jones_and_the_Kingdom_of_the_Crystal_Skull#Development

Because he made ****** prequels, but people tend to forget he's actually quite a nice guy.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....circa 1977....a movie was released. This movie whent by the name of 'Star Wars(insert trademark symbol)'. This movie would go on to impress and captivate many a nerd and geek with its amazing setting. The movie ended up becoming a trilogy with all these movies being decent in thier own way.
Fast forward 22 years after the release of "Star Wars" to the release of a prequel movie known as " Star Wars: The Phantom Menance." It had been many years of hiatus for the series and anticipation for this prequel movie was fever-pitch with many fans eagerly waiting to once again travel into a galaxy far away with lightsabers in hand. With the release of the movie on May, 19 1999, it would go on to major financial success. However, critics and audiences would go on to say that the movie was mediocre citing heavyhanded exposition, bland characters, and an infamous Jar Jar Binks for the negative reviews.
The next two movies of the prequel trilogy would go on to suffer the same fate and with this many would come to realize George Lucas' writing was nothing all too good to begin with. Also because of his incompetence it gave way to a mess of other "Star Wars" media that had to be approved according to his vision of the franchise. This mess of contradictory media would go on to cause more disdain with the fans that George Lucas would go on to declare the whole lot not part of the established canon, meaning good gems that actually had some good quality were now nonexistent in the eyes of George Lucas.
TL; DR: George Lucas dun goofed with his franchise and calls reset because of the mess he has made. That is why I dislike him at least.

Phantom Menace was bad, not gonna defend the movie as a whole, but the things to break down are
1. Jar Jar **** wit was a character of significant importance unlike C3P0, he wasn't a plugged in there character, he served a purpose. Also Sith lord theroy
2. Of all the Characters in Star Wars Obi-Wan has become mine, and many others, favorite because of how well the prequels portrayed him. Luke was a pair of pants, a good pair, but a pair none the less. I only began to care for him in The Return of the Jedi, it toke 3 movies for me to care for a character. Anakin on the other hand was a cunt, he was an annoying kid, an emo teenager and stupid adult, despite that i cared to see where he would go, what would become of this lil prick to turn him into Darth Vader and Episode 3 did a ******* amazing job of why. Point i'm making is characters where slightly better in prequels I would point out the good ones of the original trilogy but all you fanboys already know that
3. The star wars world was best portrayed in the prequels which lead way to even more and IMO better EU.
4. Also the prequels may have contained the The Phantom wreck but both the clone wars and especially the Revenge of the Sith where good stand alone but also helped improve the Original trilogy. Some opinions will vary depending on whether or not you before knowing Vader or not.
Tl DR Nostalgia is a dangerous thing and you should not let it lead cloud your judgement. Revenge of the Sith best movie

I agree completely. I first watched the prequels before touching the original trilogy and I enjoyed them immensely. I was just in the mood to write some condensed history before I whent to a 7'o clock showing of "The Force Awakens" yesterday, coincidentally. I love "Star Wars" no matter what time period of the history they put it in. That being said I can see why people have some disdain for certain points in its overarching story. I have even tried to introduce my friends to the series and they would leave my house dazed and confused at what they just watched. Maybe my friends are not "nerd" enough to get it but it shows that some people that walk into it will be grasping straws. In the end I believe if you enjoy the series then that is all that matters. I know I do.

The thing is, whether or not you analyze the crap out of a movie, the story, structure etc, what really matters is if you are having a good time watching it. And even though the prequals have some amazing lightsaber battles, the rest of the movies are boring ******** that makes one fall asleep. I watched the two first prequals before the original trilogy when I was a kid, and I loved the originals while I thought the prequals were boring. In other words, the prequals should be nostalgic to me, not the originals, but I knew what movies were exciting or not.
I agree that Revenge is the best prequal though.

Palpatine will forever be the best villian in Star Wars history. If you watch the Clone Wars you will see just why.
Palpatine's a lil' bitch Compared to Emperor Vitiate at least

I like the prequels when I watch the anti cheese versions
no cheesy dialogue (for the most part) trade federation and scenes where there are gungans and jar jar have been redubbed with some fake alien language with subtitles.
the big changes are mainly with episode one, tried watching episode 1 for the 2nd time since it's release because of the jar jar being a sith theory, after 40 minutes it was obvious that it was nonsense, and also I was reminded of all the things that were oh so bad about it. So uh yeah after all that I could only finish the non cheese version of the film which I recommend

these weren't "empty"
it just out alot of the stuff that wasn't needed. scenes that just didn't add anything to it at all, and all the poorly written dialogue between anakin and padme
you might say that it's important to establish the chemistry and relationship but the fact is it doesn't do that with the scenes fully intact, all the important stuff is there, you still have jar jar, the gungans and the podracing.

there's a lot more changed to the originals than just the adding the ghost. even in return of the jedi in the club scene with jaba the hut, the fat alien singing lady was originally a puppet then it was replaced by cgi with a changed voice that is waaay more annoying that the original
Yours is tighter , that slut can watch us have some fun ;)
