I make Daedric for my companions all the time. You can also make Dwarven armor before ever entering Whiterun, which has the same face obstructing headgear style. Just sayin'.

I don't use mods or anything, namely because I play on a PS3, but I was able to power-level Conjuration in order to outfit them better.

my second nord is at LvL 1, because it seems to make more sense that giants STAY deadly, not just in the first part of the game
I just cheated all my skills to lvl 100, normal bandits are 1hit, the rest of the enemies are hard as fuck, it's more fun this way

Makes sense. Bandits don't become much of a threat until Marauders and Thugs join the ranks. Chiefs get more dangerous as their gear improves, even though it sort of stops at steel-plate armor and dwarven weapons.

I just didn't like that they lied, they said no levelled loot, but eventually you'll find ebony weapons and armour everywhere
of course, you're at the level where you can make that all yourself, but if you can find ebony everywhere, why doesn't anyone ever use it? it's just stupid

If you'll notice, that guard is from either Markarth or Falkreach, not Whiterun.

when I have an army consisting out of nord huscarls, vaegir marksmen, and swaedian knights, you don't fuck with me

I started playing with floris Expanded, and my game was kinda wierd that Swadiands started at war with 3 nations, and got insta-raped. So I run with the Nords now.

I tried installing floris, failed 3 times, gave up
I just use tweak MB, mainly for garissoned army upkeep and being able to recruit 30 units minimum in one town, it sucks losing once and having to go by 30 villages to end up with an army consisting of recruits

and the worst part of losing is losing all my huscarls
oh, and the morale, I hate morale dropping low enough to have 5 marksmen run of every night

as far as tactics go, the game isn't all that hard
in a siege, form 3 lines, huscarls up front, archers in the back, and just wait untill they run out of arrows
in a normal battle, just charge in with all of your knights while the enemy sets up

I wish I had Floris mod pack, to make the batlles a bit more interesting...

Well, Floris is missing those features, it would be cool to finally recruit some real soldiers instead of yokels, I'm so tired of dragging them around.
