Have you tried mercenary work? It might suit you.

Do quests, raid and sell goodies from bandits, etc. Also check out the invisible chest in Dawnstar.

My Mer brother, you are a skilled enough thief and assassin to have earned a place in both the thieves guild and dark brotherhood. Thus you must have sufficient stealth skills. The solution is simple, steal, steal from everyone who has ever crossed your path and never earned your respect. Steal from the wicked, the corrupt, the tyrannical, and the greedy. They don't deserve what they have. But don't let yourself become corrupted too. Help out those in need, complete errands, assist those who ask for help, they might be more generous than they look. Also take what you can from your victories. All that stuff the fallen foes have can be sold for a good price. You'll find the spoils of war to be most profitable, so sell the possessions of your dead enemies.

Good luck in your adventures, and remember the Thalmor are not your friend. They speak of elf superiority over men, but I can say from experience they will turn of a fellow elf if they find it suitable.

~From a friendly Bosmer, Sci-rel.

Okay, okay, hear me out, I'm an expert on this stuff, man.

1) Go to Halted Stream Camp north of Whiterun
2) Go through the place killing everyone inside (there's a bandit boss at the end)
3) Where the bandit boss is, PICK UP THE SPELL TOME TRANSMUTE (that's the most important thing)
4) Grab a pickax somewhere in there (I know there's at least 1)
5) Mine every bit of iron ore veins in the place
6) Grab everything else that isn't nailed down (including more iron ore)
7) Spam the crap outta transmute to make all that iron ore into gold ore
8) Make the gold ore into gold ingots and make gold rings (if you have jewels, make those first)
8.5) (Optional) use any petty, lesser, or common soul gems to enchant all these gold rings with the most expensive enchantment (if you have fortify sneak, that's the best one)
9) Sell all your jewelry to your local wizard and general goods store

Best way to sell all of it if you have a lot is to start in Whiterun and do a fast travel circle from there to Markarth to Solitude and back. While selling, you can also buy iron ore to continue the process again later. After all is said and done, you'll be rich. Happy hunting!

More recent releases of the game patched this....
It doesn't work on mine. The basket just launches off.

You could stop playing skyrim and play some real man games like roblox

Roblox? You're joking, right? Please, get lost. If you don't have a tip go away.

Two plans for you. first is complete dungeons and bandit camps, only taking items with a value x10 their weight. the second option is go to halted steams camp (northwest of whiterun) with a pickaxe and plenty of inventory room. clear the mine of the bandits and iron ore. inside is an alteration spell book called transmute. it turns iron ore (one at a time) into silver ore and silver ore into gold. doing that will give you gold ore, which once smelted and crafted into rings or necklaces brings in good money. this trick is useful for getting your alteration, smithing, and speech up. for this one you might want to get the speech perk that allows you to sell everything to anyone.

Oh yeah, now I remember that spell, thanks a lot!

You can hunt giant's to get giant's toe. Use the Giant's toe with Wheat and each potion you craft will sell for maybe 300gold at starting alchemy I believe? Goodluck friend!

So all you guys talking about converting iron ore into gold and silver... don't. Just don't. Get a buttload of iron, and a buttload of leather strips, and finally a buttload of petty/lesser/common soul gems. Then get either the paralyze or the Banish enchantment. Preferably Banish. And short of those two any of the "absorb" ones do alright as well. Make iron daggers to infinity and beyond, and then enchant the crap out of them. If you have banish they will sell for about 700 septims a piece. The hardest part about this strategy is getting the soul gems, but if you have access to (or preferably are the arch mage of) the College of Winterhold, you can find/steal PLENTY of soul gems in a relatively short period of time. I do this whenever I'm low on money, and usually can rack up about 30k of daggers in around 15 min. I do keep my own stash of soul gems though.

There is an invisible chest in Dawnstar by the iron mine. It is an oddly small invisible chest, but the loot is incredible. Enchanted weapons and armour most worth at least 300septims and soul gems worth upwards of 700septims. and poisions that are surprisingly valuable. Here's like to help you: Skyrim Infinite Gold & Secret Chest in Dawnstar. GLITCH for 360/PS3/PC

Hope this helped, fellow dark elf.

Do what I do; every time I go dungeon delving, I take anything of value not nailed to the floor. Consider weight to value ratio. That means no worthless iron crap, unless it is ingots/ore. Get the transmute spell from halted stream camp. You can now turn iron ore into gold. Make gold rings. Make money by selling them and grind smithing.

I honestly don't see how you can be broke if you're doing both the Dark Brotherhood and the TG...finish both quest lines and do the entire TG radiant quests until you actually become the Guildmaster. This will take forever but you make a lot of coin. Sell your loot too.

Besides what other people are saying and just doing main quest lines (dark brotherhood, or thieves guild) I dont have any other advice on how to get gold, but i do have some advice on how you can get the house and upgrades for free. (please note, idk if this glitch still works).
- Save before you attempt this (better safe then sorry).
- Go to the person to buy the house from, and buy normally.
- The second you buy the house (or upgrade) press B, and quickly store all your gold in a nearby chest or other storage object.
- Once they are done talking, collect your gold.
- Rinse and repeat for all the upgrades.
... Profit?

Finish the dark brotherhood questline, and then repeatedly do The Dark Brotherhood Forever, or whatever it is called. You get about 2-3k per quest, there is no limit, and each quest takes 5-10 minutes.

kill dragons, do quests.
