First thing I do each time I replay Skyrim is following the main quest to the point I get the whole Unrelenting Force shout unlocked. Then I go and do everything else.

The first thing I did when I got skyrim (the other day) was get 80 something mods ( of course I plan to get more. Now there are only two kinds of enemies, those that explode if I even look at them and the ones that do that to me.
User avatar #2 to #1 - grandzora (12/25/2015) [-]
first thing i do is add so many mods that its impossible to kill the omega deathlord draugr that is in the place, so i mod in more **** to kill it.

first thing i do each time is add 200+ mods and get them all working nicely and then play for two or three hours and never touch skyrim again for weeks or months.

every time

>start skyrim
>do story quests up to killing a dragon in whiterun
>wander off and do hundreds of other quests
>level up everything
>stacked everything, enchant clothes of smithing, smith super armor and weapons, enchant them further and smith further
>become invisible by squatting in plain sight
>rediscover main quest
>1 hit kill everything
>up game difficulty
>1.5 hit kill everything

having overwhelming strength is pretty boring

I only recently started playing again. modded in a follower so i could tell lydia to **** off though. Thinking of buying the DLC(s), are they worth it though?

Not really.

There's the whole Vampire overlord morph thing then there are the houses which are kinda neato when you want to put some stuff in safe (nothing that you can't do in a hideout), you can join the vampire hunters and you get to battle the other dragonborn...

Other than that it's nothing that you couldn't do with mods.
User avatar #58 to #8 - peliaosfiendline (12/27/2015) [-]
well, there is the fact that there's no shortage of mods that require you to have those DLCs

Mymymy. I didn't know that tho.

DB is definitely worth it.
DG is more a matter of weather you're into that kind of thing.
both are of Bethesda quality, whatever that might mean to you.

I haven't really done anything with the Dawnguard of hearthfire yet (but the house was cool)
User avatar #16 to #15 - theugandanhero (12/26/2015) [-]
Dawnguard is kick-ass.
Don't forget that with Dawnguard you can level up your Companion's skills as well now.

Dragonborn DLC is worth it definetly, even if you don't like the added story, areas and other stuff you still get a place where you can respec if you wanna
#10 to #5 - anon (12/26/2015) [-]
they're worth it for me, they add a lot of hours of gameplay and dragonborn even adds a whole new area, they're cheap now too

I really dislike Skyrim. Granted the game got 424 hours out of me, but that was 424 hours of obsessively questing, doing DLC, and downloading and playing mods to try and make the game fun.

This is the issue I take with Bethesda. They make these huge expansive worlds that make you eager to explore and learn more about, but once you actually get out there you find that it's empty and boring and lifeless, full of the same enemies over and over that you're forced to fight with an oversimplified and underworked combat system. It's impossible for me to feel immersed in a game that's just not fun at all, especially when quests are taken from boring characters whom the writers were given a paragraph for backstory and dialogue, which always seem to equate to "Go to the place, fight the guy, maybe get the thing, come back and I'll give you a thing.", and yet the place is boring, the fight with the guy and the pathway to him is boring, and the thing is only worth stashing in a chest to never be used or thought about again.

I can't stand badly implemented leveling systems, either. The way that Dark Souls implements its leveling system is by rewarding the player with the ability to have a stronger in-game character in return for them playing the game well. Skyrim does it the same way. However, the problem is that with Dark Souls, leveling isn't the focus. The focus is your ability to play the game. The combat in Dark Souls is sophisticated and designed specifically so that the player has to acquire a certain real-life skillset to play the game well. Leveling up is more of a way of allowing the player to choose different playstyles to suit them, rather than the singular reward. Skyrim's combat system is basically 'if you have better armor and weapons, you win'. The sneak system is hardly a strong argument for Skyrim having a complex combat system. At least in Fallout, there's a heavy focus on gunplay, which at least requires you to exercise your FPS abilities, though it's clear with the VATS system that Bethesda doesn't want to challenge you, they want you to explore and they're not sure how to incentivize exploration or make it ineresting, so they put a placeholder combat system and placeholder enemies to give you something to do on your way to the next area.

I once watched a very good video about what made Banjo-Kazooie such a good game, and one of the points raised was the fact that the world of Banjo-Kazooie is very specifically designed for the player to enjoy every moment. The world is only as big as it needs to be. The same thing can be said for Dark Souls. Both of these games are designed so that every area, item, enemy, and enemy placement serve a specific purpose. This is the problem with Open-World games. Just because you present the player with a giant world that is infinitely explorable doesn't mean that they're going to want to. Sometimes you have to give them a reason to. I'm not saying that Open-World is a bad thing that can't work, but in the case of Bethesda, I believe that they have poorly incentivized their exploration. I don't care about the people who send me on quests, I quickly lose interest in the places they take me, and I would rather sit around and read all the books about the world than to actually go anywhere and talk to anyone about anything. That's a really bad thing when your game makes me want to read more than actually play the game.

The only thing Skyrim's design makes the player truly value is leveling up and collecting gear, and the reward I get for spending hours upon days upon weeks achieving all of those levels and hoarding all of those items is an empty feeling that I have never felt from a game in my life, and I hope I never feel again. There's a word for a game that focuses on wasting your life building artificial strength and fake items. It's called an MMORPG, and there is no real-life value to them. They're wastes of time, and that's what Skyrim is. A waste of my freakin' time.

Until you point it out and everyone around you feels like an idiot. Even though thumbing someone up or down is technically a display of people's opinions. Still, wouldn't mind some sort of percentage distribution rather than a binary "agreed with" and "disagreed with" indicator on comments like on youtube videos. After all, thumbs are a major part of this website.

I heard Ark is really interesting. It is still in development right now so expect lots of bugs. But I tried the free trail weekend they had going on once and I enjoyed it.

Idk how computer savvy you are but do you know the specs of your PC?

Like type of processor, number of cores, speed of the cores, RAM, Graphics card, ect.

If you go to that search bar Which a lot of people complain about because it searches the web using Bing but I just turn off the web search and use it to search my computer but thats just me. Sorry for the digression. and type "About your PC" and you click on the gear that says "About your PC" next to it and scroll down you should see some info next to processor and RAM is some of the info. To find your
graphics card you need to go to your device manager which could be found by searching in that bar. That's why I really love that search bar.
User avatar #47 to #45 - zoomanfar (12/26/2015) [-]
The processor is an intel core cpu 4.00GHz, it's got 16 GB of installed RAM, and I'm not sure where to look in the device manager for the rest of it. You'd have to explain a bit more.
User avatar #50 to #47 - AlexPaincakes ONLINE (12/26/2015) [-]
Do you see how mine said Eight-cores do you know how many cores you have?

Because it is sounding like you have a very decent computer.

and on the device manager page you would want to click on the arrow next to "Display Adapters" and what is shows there is your graphics card. Mine is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 Not the best but not too bad enough to run games on high without a noticeable frame drop.
User avatar #57 to #50 - zoomanfar (12/26/2015) [-]
I think it's an eight core, because when I looked under processors, it lists the same one eight times.
User avatar #55 to #50 - zoomanfar (12/26/2015) [-]
The processor doesn't say how many cores I have. Graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980. I understand exactly zero percent of what any of that means.

played skyrim on my old 360 way back. hated it to no end. dident like the controls, just couldent look past them. had the same issue with borderlands 2 no matter how much i wanted to like it.

Months later, i pay my two friends to build me a gaming pc. pay out the ass to have this thing made. drain my bank account to make this magika happen because i was sick of paying out the ass for console games and i wanted those steam sales so bad.

First game i see on steam store in my face with huge letters, skyrim. heard it was better on PC. buy it for $15. love the **** out of it, but only can bring myself to play it once, don't know why. I then think to my self, if skyrim was better on PC, would borderlands 2 be the same way? Buy it for $20.

Holy ******* **** . the best game i have gotten my hands on to this day and i don't think anyone can tell me otherwise. **** your destiny, your halo, your xcom's and your LoL's. I can't stop playing this magnificent piece of work.
