Not only is it free, but mandatory by law in the U.S. for students to attend school.

I'm going to be completely honest with my future child. If you want to go to a good school then you better work your ******* ass off because I will NOT be able to afford that **** . I will tell them to get a job the second they hit 16 and save every penny. No wasting it on stupid **** , save their money. AND do well in school to get a good scholarship. I'll help pay a bit of course as well.

I had to pay for book and supply fees in high school, it wasn't cheap. My state is one of the few that you have to pay fees in high school.

its a good idea because it means only people who want to be there go there. though most spoiled suburban kids go with their parents money
User avatar #134 to #130 - terminalpreppie (01/21/2014) [-]
This is so accurate. I go to a school with a lot of student who are going "because their parents are making them."

If your parents don't have the money to pay for your college, then go in state. It will still cost a lot, probably close to $50,000 as OP said. If you want to continue to graduate school, you can usually get a stipend that gives you a salary on top of paying your full tuition...if you are in the hard sciences and engineering, that is. If you choose to go into the humanities, prepare to fight for competitive grants or take on massive debt.

I hate when countries claim that they have free college. Newsflash: it is not free. True, you may not get a bill from the college, but it is taken from your taxes. I would much rather go to college in America. The universities are higher rated, and over time it is cheaper than in European countries.

I would much rather pay a lower tax rate and be responsible for only part of the cost of my education (because my state pays 75% of all college cost if you get high enough grades) than have 'free' college and pay a higher tax rate for the rest of my life. In the long run, college is cheaper in America.

Final thoughts, if you end up with 50 grand in debt going through college, you are doing it wrong. If you get the grades, you get the scholarships.

You just summed up a right wing view on education
