i'm in grad school and I exclusively write in cursive. Now I write it because it's habit and I enjoy the way it flows. In high school I wrote in cursive because I was the kid everyone wanted to cheat off of, but they couldn't read cursive from far away, so they couldn't cheat off me.

I do exactly what you do. Also I think cursive looks fancy as hell so I started consistently writing in cursive in 4th grade then just never stopped.

Is it really like that? I mean, in germany I learned cursive in elementary school in the last of the 4 years, and i still usw it today. In fact every school i went on since then encouraged you to get a personal writing style, so it doesn't matter if you write cursive, normal or a mixed style of both.

it was like that where I live in the midwest USA, but i'm finding a lot of people on this thread who still write cursive and know how to read it and all. Maybe I was just in an awful school and didn't know it. When Middle School started (6th grade) we were no longer forced to write in cursive (we were forced to write only in cursive in 5th grade though). I and only one other student were the only ones who continued to write in cursive i was made fun of for this on more than one occasion in high school but like i said it also saved me from having people cheat off me too .

We are encouraged to have a personal signature, but not a personal writing style. I don't remember any teacher ever talking about a personal writing style. However in most occupations that I know of, as long as people can read what you are writing they won't care if you write in cursive or not.

Once, when I was in eight grade, we had a test - and I wrote 8 pages. Was very proud of how I performed on that test. Was kind of disappointed when we got the test back a couple of weeks later, and the teacher hadn't graded my test because he was unable to read it. Although, tbh sometimes I can't even understand it myself.

I have some counter-arguments.

*Write cursive; rapid note taking.
Answer; Use a netbook and type notes 6x faster than cursive.

Answer; learn ******* spelling. I don't want to see another 'your' in my life unless it is spelled correctly.

I'd say that algebra is better than the basics of math. We have calculators for the basics, but algebra is about understanding math and logic, and dammit, logic is a nice thing to have.

Also, that spelling thing is grammar, but I agree. And a haiku has a 5-7-5 structure, not a 5-6-5. And having an extensive vocabulary makes communication faster provided that everyone has extensive vocabularies. What sucks is the attitude of teachers to motivate kids, as well as teaching methods. I'm sorry about the excessive nitpicking good sir, I'm very tired today.

Yah, I'm planning on a CS major, so a lot of the classes necessary currently I don't really need.

Luckly school systems are starting to realize this, such as now CS is a foreign language credit in Texas (After I took 2 years of French of course).

Also many of the courses are more centered around career prep. rather than pushing everything on students.

Took a highschool course in history where we were forced to take notes on every page we read and do a quiz every day with a test every week. A 5 paragraph paper was expected every two weeks and you had to have at least a dozen sources from special online sites you had to access with pay codes a lot of the time. Missing one class was worth a automatic zero and a letter grade off of your test. Our teacher told us she worked closely with the professors at a nearby university and that they demanded higher work than that.
When i went to that university class, for the highest level history class available i got. The professor told me personally that i never had to go to class and that there would only be 4 tests all semester with no hw or quizzes. The tests needed only 3 sources and wikipedia counted as a source. I aced the class and ended up going to the highschool to help other kids study. The teacher told me she did all that just so we would be ahead.
Mfw i lost all the sleep and stressed so much to just get a little edge

Ok so in the content, it begins and ends with references to cursive. The picture I posted implies that black people can't read cursive, so buried in what is presented as a special prayer for trayvon martin is a racist diatribe about cursive being a secret communications tool for white people should race riots occur. That's the basic gist of it.

Nah, I just think they read the heading then immediately thumbed it down deeming it irrelevant and stupid.

that's possible, maybe thinking I was actually trying to get people to pray for trayvon. It's like people don't read the name of who posts a comment before blinding downthumbing

I could never figure out how to write cursive and it pissed me off that I've never used it since "writing class" in fifth grade. When I asked why we needed to learn it, they told me "because it's faster and it's all you are allowed to use in high school." Bitch, that **** gave me hand cramps and it took my a ******* year to write one sentence.
Now my hand writing is some weird combination of print and cursive, with my letters resembling print but my pencil only occasionally leaving the page. Unless I slow down, then it looks pretty neat.
