>>#24, He was an amazing man, I feel fortunate to have been able to meet him once, it was actually during the premier for the yellow trailer. He was so kind and he talked to just about everyone who approached him, i tried not to talk his ear off and tell him nonstop how excited I was for rwby (that didn't happen I entered fanboy mode hard it was impossible to hold back considering who i found myself talking to) but he never stopped listening he smiled, laughed, and continued to sign everyone's stuff while talking to me. I eventually realized i was rambling to him and asked him to sign my badge and thanked him for everything including the time he gave to speak to me. (while it wasn't like an hour or two I easily took like 10 minutes of his time.)

Maybe because its not completely finished (?) but the animation there seemed a little lack luster... but hell, new RWBY who can complain?

... RIP Monty.

this same scene was shown at RTX this year even more unfinished, at the time they said they were i think either two weeks or two months into production, cant remember the exact time sorry, anyway chances are somethings are still in early stages and being worked on till release.

I cant wait got to see a few cool things at RTX this year, this scene in the link when it was still incomplete included, and it left me excited. Im so happy that the wait for volume 3 is almost over.
User avatar #34 to #2 - Vo Spader (10/09/2015) [-]
Sorry to spoil it but RTX already happened this year. I went and it was pretty cool, they had an updated demo of the RWBY game and a RWBY themed memorial for Monty that fans could sign. They were also selling the Rin figure that wasn't available on the store until recently.

sorry i was tired when i typed that there was supposed to be a comma in there but it reads I cant wait, I got to see a few cool things at RTX this year.

I got the Rin figure for my girlfriend since she couldn't go.

i cant wait for RTX next year though.

What is the actual appeal of this show? I have friends that really like this, but they generally have poor taste so I had low expectations when I gave it a shot.

Okay at best 3D models and animation, pretty bad character designs, okay at best voice acting, Saturday-morning-cartoon at best villains and conflict, childish humor, generic setting, not good action scenes or choreography... Why do so many people care so much for this show? If there is something I am not getting, then I would like to know.

Is it just because it's Rooster Teeth? Is it just because it's western, but feels like eastern? Is it just sub par waifus? What is it?

I have no idea.

The overall standard is good.
FOr the timeframe and budget they did really well with the animation and models.
The characters all have really good designs, the plot follows some generic conventions but that doesn't mean its bad, theres a lot of originality in it.
They don't cut corners with the action scenes, yes the weapons and fights are over the top but they animate the whole thing instead of doing blurs or '2 fast 4 u' **** .

Monty poured his passion into it and it really does show, yes there are parts where it falls down a little, namely due to his lack of resources but he knew where to focus and where to let it slide.

There are parts where it wouldn't stand up to close scrutiny but those are the parts you're not meant to scrutinize, if you watch it properly instead of trying to find flaws you'll barely notice them, yes you'll know they're there but they don't take away from the show unless you want them to
User avatar #20 to #19 - deaminzaints (10/09/2015) [-]
dude. everything is generic if you want it to be.
the characters are nice and refreshing, the setting is a fantasy world based on tech which usually means steampunk but no they actually innovated, the 3D models and animation is great compared to the low budget/timeframe, the voice acting is good, the villains are villains (like what do you want? what is a good villain to you really? these guys are running a terrorist extremist org.).
but most importantly, the one thing that really shows your opinion is baseless and dumb is that you call the action scenes and choreography "not good". compare that **** to everything else you are watching, this is the ******* bomb. anime = mostly just frontal attacks, slashes and **** that are "too fast" an excuse so they dont gotta show you whats happening. that and sudden "im behind ya bitch" moves.
Real life tv shows = ******* sitting around behind boxes and shooting at other boxes, occasionally having a fist fight which is basically allways just right-left-right-knee-kick-right. seriously, look up some movie fist fights.

All aspects of the show are good and the main selling point, the action scenes, are amazing.

honestly, hating on RWBY is just the "dark souls is a **** game" of shows.

nicely said, you and epicalania

I actually dont like dark souls but i have my own reasons, that being said i actually want to give it a second try because i feel like i didn't give it a fair first try
User avatar #30 to #28 - epicalania (10/09/2015) [-]
I like to try to put aside all expectations and preconceptions when I first pick up something, be it a book, a game or a show.
If you have expectations, theres a chance something amazing will seem bad because it excells in one way but doesn't meet your expectations in another.
If you have preconceptions you'll look at it with an unfair eye, which leads to people dogging on things unfairly, or overblown fanboying. Think of your favourite old movie, one from when practical effects were still pretty cheesy, now ask yourself, do you care that the effects aren't incredible? No, I bet you don't because that doesn't detract from it, the movie is good because it has a good plot, it has depth, it has all sorts of other things going for it, it doesn't need exceptional effects.
It's the same with a lot of things, a book doesn't need to be long or complicated, it doesn't need to have a detailed world, it can, and if it excells there then thats great, but it can also excell in plot, or depth, or something else.

When people have negative preconceptions they notice the parts that are lacking, and don't see the rest. They'd see your old movie and think, 'gee those effects aren't realistic at all, this movie sucks' instead of seeing what makes it amazing and realising it doesn't need good effects.

personal opinion is a good thing, but there are objective things that we can analyze on and conclude if something is good or bad.
dark souls is a good game, even when i dont personally like it either, my problem just is when people go "its a **** game, bad graphics, boring fights, dumb world etc." they are obviously objectively wrong.
i honestly started out not liking it couse it was just hyped too much, but i actually like the game for its qualities even when there are some bad points *cough* hitbox *cough*
User avatar #31 to #29 - azuretheflamegod [OP](10/09/2015) [-]
my reasons for disliking it are definitely not "its a **** game, bad graphics, boring fights, dumb world etc."

I would like to be fair and give it another go, play it further than I did (it wasn't really far)
and this second attempt i won't have the over hype to kill it for me.

I'm really trying to like RWBY, I even bought the blu-rays. But gosh...just, I feel like the writers care more about action and comedy than they do the characters (such as the season 2 opening food fight, or the weirdly placed mech fight*). I need to watch it again so I might be wrong, but the only characterization I got out of those villain spy kids was "hey, we're bad guys," we never got to really meet them.

But maybe I'm right, it's just a clash of interests and the show's not meant for me to really enjoy. I'll keep trying. As always, RIP Monty.

*on that one I'm pretty bugged that Weiss tried to make a bad pun at the end of it, and that Neptune/Sun just abandoned the fight when a crowded highway was being destroyed...they kinda sacrificed logical reactions for the rule of funny.
User avatar #46 to #38 - meringueluka ONLINE (10/16/2015) [-]
RWBY isn't a show that is meant to be taken very seriously, i mean it's clichéd out the ass. it's an action comedy show not some epic drama about hyper realistic characters. it's sorta like kill la kill and gurren lagann, yes theirs a plot and yes their are characters but you don't really focus on them, they're not the focus of the show.
but i do admit it does lack in characterization for anyone outside of team RWBY or JNPR
#37 - roflstorm (10/09/2015) [-]
It just won't be the same without Monty

Wonder if they'll address the teacher sealing dozens of those white fang members underground with monsters that will eat them, even though there were only about 3 people on the train who knew they were on a suicide course and all the other members were meant to guard the bomb just by being there. That bugged the hell out of me. It's literally forcing dozens of kids to die extremely nightmarish deaths because they had no idea what they got into.

This hype is also a gun.
