Right now my problem with RWBY is they keep hinting that they are gunna take a darker twist, much like the pattern of Star Wars, but they never do. Nothing bad ever winds up affecting the main characters in a substantial way other than 'ooh my tragic backstory has come to light'.
They keep having these opening songs with lyrics containing the themes of loss of innocence, nothing good can stay, all that jazz but it never gets reflected in the plot.
Pretty much this volume of RWBY will make it or break it for me. Either they will show they can handle a mature theme and actually have a message to say, or itll be just doomed to JOKES! ACTION! MOAR JOKES!
It's roosterteeth. The fact that any of their shows developed any sort of darker twist is due to a toss of the dice. Look at rvb. "He's dead. Now he's a robot. No wait he's an AI. Totally meant for that to happen. Now he's a ****** fragment of AI from a successful torture experiment meant to literally tear the mind of a sentient being to shreds."
Course, they had way less sense of what they wanted to achieve with rvb. They didn't know if they were even gonna keep making them half the time.
And now he's actually super dead . But now that you mention, RvB was intentionally a comedy, and did take some very serious turns. I do think RWBY will follow the same suit this season, if the opening scene is anything to go by. I think it's a very, entertaining show to watch, but I'm as emotionally invested in it as I am with RvB.
Monty had at LEAST six volumes planned with the rationality of easily hitting nine or ten. Time will tell. I have a bad feeling that we'll be losing someone this season. Perhaps we won't lose some one permanently, but temporarily. A lot of the darker things will most likely be backstory related given the show is only about 7 hours aired so far. Time will tell. For now, I'm enjoying the ride every bit of the way.
I think either we'll loose someone(good guy), or a member of RWBY or JNPR will *********** kill someone on screen to establish the seriousness of it all. I'm thinking it'll be either Ruby, Yang, or Jaune.
All though not as grimm grim as a death, the idea of a character turning sides is definitely in the air with the amount of backstory in place right now and how grey some influential characters are in the show Qrow, Ironwood, Raven possibly, Adam . From the intro, one my reactions was something bad definitely happening to team JNPR. which sucks because I like them the most so far despite having so little information about the. I relate most to them.
As much as I like the show's innocence and clean fun, RWBY as a show is much more thought out than anything RT has done so far when it comes to release rather than changing it as it goes like RvB did. Not dissing RvB one bit, just referencing. so I don't put anything to impossibility at the moment.
Something is definitely going with JNPR, Pyrrha was on Cinder's list. Winter as well is pretty shady. Oh, and the Dangerous. Mute. Lunatic. will probably show up right when it starts getting real. I think RvB just sort of "alright, lets do this and we'll see where it goes" is part of it's charm, also keeps it unpredictable because you never really know how the next season will go( ******* return of The Alien Prophecy for example).
Not gonna lie, I don't have waifus or any of that stuff, but Neo is looking to be one of my favorite characters on the show for so many reasons. She's easy on the eyes, too but again, I don't do waifu shenanigans
I hope the mute lunatic stays mute just to have some more dynamic exchanges between characters. She has the eye thing going for her so she has ways to express herself. **** is going down this volume. If it doesn't I will be very surprised. This is phase 2 of Cinder's plan, so I'm expecting some bomb shells.
Likewise, never saw the point among other things. I like the contrasts we're getting between characters, like Qrow and Ironwood, Winter and Weiss, Neo and Yang. And even how some characters are similar to those in RWBY, but very different, such as Carolina and Pyrrha. Now that you mention it, I think facial expressions are much improved this season as well.
The people behind the show often talk about how genuinely excited they are to introduce new characters despite already having so many, and it's becoming a running joke to them from what I've seen in the all the interviews they have had.
People will criticize RWBY for hours I think, but I actually think it's a credible show with a lot of merit, especially with the resources RT had to start with. I have high hopes for the show to really mature. In a totally biased perspective, the show is ******* awesome, and despite how used the tropes are along with the exposition, I'm enjoying the direction RT is taking it.
That being said, it is amazing to see RWBY's animation and settings now compared to volume 1 where the background was mostly school and the surrounding non-important characters were silhouetted.
Caught up and yeah episode six is definitely going in the right direction, but we will have to see if there is any real follow through.
Characters need to actually bear the consequences of their actions and the actions of others. If things with yang or pyhrra get swept under the rug and pretty much has people going 'boy that was a rough patch, but friendship amirite?'
Yang's issue getting solved quickly wont be a big deal, but pyhrra needs to be the sacrificial lamb so to speak. They are setting her up with this maiden stuff and saying things can go wrong, and they SHOULD go wrong, with the powers transferring through death and the MCs obviously being setup as the maidens, Im afraid Pyhrra needs to die after becoming a maiden for this series to really take itself seriously.
i don't think her dying is the right idea. i think more on the line of her getting seriously ****** up (like getting semi paralyzed) or Amber's aura rejects Pyhrra and the whole thing is done in a lot of detail (like an internal fight.)
with yang i want to see her doubt herself, see her bravado and confidence shattered. i want to see her have to try pick herself back up after what she did.
