It's an anime style show made by roosterteeth. The show by itself is meh,not bad but I've seen better. However, it's filled with roosterteeth/ achievement hunter references.
RWBY is a 3D rendered, anime-styled cartoon developed by RoosterTeeth, or rather, their head animator, Monty Oum as a sort of thing he wanted to do after season 10 of RvB.
The whole thing is like a Final Fantasy game from around the FF7 era, if Final Fantasy happened on a death-world and the main characters were all attending highschool.
for an Indie work? it's good stuff.
as a 3D animation? some amateurish corner-cutting visible, but that goes away during important parts like the fight scenes, where the creator really shines.
as far as plot goes: you'll love it or you'll hate it essentially. nothing special here, classic Final Fantasy plot almost.
overall: whilst plagued with issues, Rwby does perform well on it's own.
would I recommend you give it a try? Most assuredly.
out of 10? I'd give it a 7. maybe an 8 on a good day.
from a fan to a non-fan...
THANK YOU!~
I've been trying to come up with a way to succinctly describe the show, and you've just summed it up in three quick phrases.
The fanfiction community is putting a lot of effort of making the plot better though. Especially the faunus/human/White Fang debacle. Some authors that I followed decide that highschool romance take backseat, and have one of the secondary main character jump head first into the politic. It was awesome. The sheer political gambit he took.
do you have the name of the fanfic? I pretty much stopped reading books because of fanfiction.net
and I'm okay with the plot. it serves it's purpose.
I hope they do a spin-off series or something like that, that kinda 'cracks the nut' on the world: what do normal people do, what is life life out in Vale?
don't get me wrong, I do like the idea of RWBY tackling the big issues out there, but I want to keep the light-hearted school stuff in there, as otherwise the whole thing just becomes too depressing and too close to real life.
