I've gotta say, I was super hyped for the new season, but wound up with only disappointment.
Did no one else notice the really sub-par animation? The opening shot with Ruby was great, lots of subtle movements, an expressive face and good lip syncing and voice acting to drive home the emotional scene that it was.
Then her dad. Totally static model, lighting was completely backwards, and through several cuts he stayed in the same pose/position.
The battle. Both teams had choppy animation, there was a bunch of unneeded cuts splitting the action unnecessarily, and the effects were pretty sub par. For example, Weiss' ice trap thing didn't look good at all, with the enemies just sticking out without any motion or voices? Their combo finisher was slow, and felt uncoordinated and boring. Compared to the fight against Torchwick, none of the blows had any weight, magic/dust was like puffs of air/smoke, and their combos were slow and felt harmless.
After the fight. More sloppy animation mostly from jumpy cuts and static character models that had hair/clothes physics but no idle-y motion to go with. I'd concede it might be a style choice for a separation of action/humor segments, but it still feels lazy to me.
I've been re-watching the show the past few days in pure anticipation for the new season. I even became a sponsor so I could watch it a day early on Rooster Teeth. I just don't understand the 100% blanket amazingness by the fans. Maybe I'm just a jerk who cant enjoy things anymore, and I'm going to keep watching, but I feel like the show has taken a serious dip in quality.
Sorry for the rant, but like I said, it seems like no one is feeling the flaws, they're all too busy RIPing Monty. He was great, I agree, but things should be taken on their own merits.

But it grew on me, somehow. I haven't had time to watch any of the new season, has the animation improved? That was my only other gripe - it was kinda bad whenever they weren't in combat or you could see their feet.
