The 7 t( ppw! ! s of Ca recal
Well, my good sir, Caracal is a city in
Romania, and quite some interesting
things happened Twat " an
unfortunatelly, most of this stuff Ci;
been changed after 1989, so you won' t
find it if you go visit.
Let' s get to the facts then!
1. A building was constructed and the
crane was forgotten inside.
2. The fire station caught fire.
3. The police station' s door was stolen.
4. The graveyard is on ressurection
street.
5. The bakery is on hunger street.
6. The jail is on liberty street.
7. The first school built was called
School number 2".
Also, there' s one last thing.: the clock
from the Caracal rail station.
Please take a moment to examine it.
Yes, they wrote the first 12 hours in
roman numerals, and the last 12 hours
in arab numerals.
Please notice that they even
the roman numeral 4 (IV).
Hope you enjoyed this thing I found on
the internet and translated for you all!

The dining room clock at my house has also messed up the roman numeral 4. It has bugged me for years.

Clocks in general have had the IIII numeral to better differentiate between the first four numbers and the fifth one. The orientation of the fourth number on a clock face makes it difficult to interpret the IV. The IIII is easier on the eyes.

The clock at Durham Cathedral in the north east of England has the IIII as well. As said before, it's really common

It is standard for old (and expensive) watches/clocks to write on the clock face surface where it was constructed/made.

My wristwatch says "Tissot / 1853 / Swiss Made" - and I don't live in Switzerland anymore.

Most grandfather clocks, including ours (pic related), also use IIII instead of IV
I dunno why that is the case though

Yeah, most clocks do that, I think it has something to do with a VI and an IV being easily confused at a glance whilst upside down

Yeah we have two clocks that use Roman Numerals one of them uses IIII the other has IV.
