I can't remember having a multiple-choice exam paper since primary school. Those were the days... Now the best we get is one multiple choice question in a 2-hour long exam - which doesn't do you too many favours in terms of marks.

(I'm from England btw, wondering if any other nationalities are the same)
#57 to #39 - jiltist (12/26/2012) [-]
I attend Purdue in the college of electrical engineering, and every single course related test I've taken has been multiple choice. Granted, the MC answer is only ever worth about a fifth of the total points for each question, they're still MC questions. ._.
#54 to #39 - rieskimo (12/26/2012) [-]
In america all questions are multiple choice.

Honestly it's been 7 years since I've been to public school and things have definitely changed since. When I was in school, things were similar in what we call high school and I think you may call secondary school.

nowadays its mostly multiple choice on larger exams, most likely with a second portion for sort answer questions or an essay.

quizzes and tests are usually up to the teacher. i had a physics teacher who had no questions in multiple choice ever. and she took off half credit if in every single area you did not put the units for the problems.

sometimes i dream of hurting things that she loves.

Dear whatevericans,

What the **** is this?
User avatar #90 to #76 - krobeles (12/26/2012) [-]
In a nutshell, its a kind of test that stupid people can take, and when they get a decent grade on it, they can try their hardest to ignore the fact that for every answer you have about 25% chance of answering correctly. I never understood the ide of a test where they've basically given you the answer...
#99 to #90 - darkjustifier (12/26/2012) [-]
They wanna give everyone an equal chance I think.
#104 to #99 - krobeles (12/26/2012) [-]
Yeah i guess. But in an educational system, everyone shouldn't have an equal chance. The smart should have the upper hand, seeing as how education is basically about expanding your knowledge and awareness. If you dont have knowledge and awareness, then you shouldn't be allowed to get a paper that says you have, just because chance favored you.
#109 to #104 - darkjustifier (12/26/2012) [-]
Well everyone is good at something, I study theoretical science but I couldn't tell you anything about soccer while the same would be for the reverse, it's all how you were wired when you were born that tells you what you will find easier to learn than others, or harder to learn, I'm no good at history but my friend was but he was also no good at science, the system I was speaking of gives everyone a chance to find what they're looking for in life and for some they might be looking in the wrong direction to learn.
#112 to #109 - krobeles (12/26/2012) [-]
Indeed. Thats also a great part of it. If they make these test with multiple choise the revelation of " **** this! I am NOT going to be a scientist!" might never strike people.
I find it amazing how the language focused class can manedge about six different languages while i struggeled with Spanish...

We all have strenghts and weaknesses, but i dotn feel like these multiple choise test allows those whos strenghts lie elsewhere to determin where they lie.

Yeah I stayed in school long enough to get at least a 2 year diploma but I learned way more traveling around and the internet than I ever did in school it's just the way some people learn, it'd be better if it wasn't a law to go to school which would make it easier for people to find what they want to do with their lives.
#114 to #113 - krobeles (12/26/2012) [-]
I live in Denmark, and here, you only have to go to school for about 9 years. After that, your free to do as you please. Get a job, continue your education, whatever.
Most chose to continue whith some form of education, but it isn't required by law.
I feel like the current educational system in Denmark works pretty good. You have those 9 years to get the foundation of not being a total retard, and then you can chose another 3 years to get an even better foundation which is slightly more specified. After that, you can get into a university to study a very specifik field. You have a grand total of 12 years to determin what you want to do with your life. That should be enough for anyone.
#115 to #114 - darkjustifier (12/26/2012) [-]
That's a much better idea for an educational system than what I went through.

Where do you live? And isn't the model i described more or less the standart model for education in the Western world?

I was born in Texas where I think the law is you have to go the full 12 years unless you choose to drop out in highschool, I've moved all over the country since then and it's why I like to travel now when I can, right now I'm doing my own form of studying on astrology while I sell car parts for my dad in Dickinson.
#122 to #118 - krobeles (12/26/2012) [-]
Texas? **** . I've heard some pretty ****** up stories about Texas. Something about the Texas Republicans being against critical thinking skills?

You can really learn alot from self study, if you put some effort into it.
Its all about having the will to learn.
#123 to #122 - darkjustifier (12/26/2012) [-]

He was a troll trying to get me banned for my pony posts but failed of course, I really didn't care that he was trolling me or even trying to get me banned, I was worried that he was going to my friend's pages with a name similar to my own and insulting them, and that he was spamming my name on every page he could find to annoy the users.
#126 to #125 - krobeles (12/26/2012) [-]
That sucks. I think he got himself banned actually...like, multiple times...

On an unrelated note, your Applejack folder is ******* all-encompassing!

It's one of my smaller folders actually, it was just her turn today, it was supposed to be screwball but I only have one pic for her.

He got multiple accounts banned but not his original "t_soper"

a multiple choice answer sheet.
User avatar #77 to #76 - riggedarcade (12/26/2012) [-]
that would be called a scan-tron answer sheet. they are used to accommodate the teacher's time spent grading.
User avatar #117 to #76 - mrsockz (12/26/2012) [-]
Its called a scantron, many schools use them for multiple choice test because they are easy to use and can be fed through a machine that is given the right answers and then when the students scantrons are fed through it, automatically marks which ones are wrong. Makes grading easier on teachers.
#79 to #76 - holychickens (12/26/2012) [-]
a scantron....

This method so far has gotten me through highschool with a 3.4 gpa and a academic scholarship to college. So far so good!
