Am I the only one who tips depending on service instead of just the standard 15%?

Waiter: "here let me take that for you"

Waiter: "oh ok, ill go fuck my self"

I tip on service. But generally, if you get your meal within' 20 minutes, there's no problems. but still nothing spectacular, you should still give about 10-12%. I work in a restuarant and have seen waitresses, namely the nicest, most polite and professional one, get a crap tip (She got 35 cents..) and it's honestly a dick move.

Here in New Zealand nobody ever tips, unless the service was bloody outstanding, even then, it's not much.

I tip according to the quality of the service as well. That's how tipping is supposed to work right? I feel like that 15% bullshit is just to get a little more money out of you. If you were a good waiter. I'll give you the money you deserve. If not, you still get paid for doing your job.
User avatar #372 to #6 - annefrannk (01/15/2012) [-]
i do the exact same thing haha, or sometimes i don't if i dont have enough money, like one time i had a 7$ meal at hooters and including the tip it was around 9$ and i asked her if i couldnt pay the tip because i need the 3$ to take the bus and they said its fine and when they came back with my change i got a dollar back and i flipped out. so now i just don't even bother

I never tip, because i live in Australia. It's not really a custom here.
#542 to #317 - hazzlet (01/15/2012) [-]
tipping is not a custom in Australia because we believe that a working man/women shouldn't have to grovel/suck up to earn enough money to feed themselves/family

Yeah the waitresses tip the customers here.

In britfat standard tip is 10%, and if service is shit they get nothing. It seems to be an American thing that it's obligatory. Had some family friends went over, short by a bit on tge tip (big party, lots of maths) and the waitress started getting really neeky.

I use 15% as my starting point and then depending on if the waiter is nice, good with refilling drinks, talkative, etc, I go up or down a percent or so. I've had some where I tip up to about 25% and some where I might leave an expired coupon.

Ive worked as a bartender/server for most of my adult life.

I always tip 25%+ to servers, 50%-100% bartenders.

They'll remember you next time and will give you free shit.

I tip based on service quality. And if you are especially shitty at your job, i'll leave a penny. But for good quality service i've tipped for 50%+

I'm not a dick to wait staff, am patient and understanding of the issues that may arise in the preparation of my food. that being said, whether a waiter or waitress is nice or mean is of no concern to me. i don't tip.
User avatar #18 to #6 - LastCall (01/14/2012) [-]
Knowing how things work in the kitchens, I generally tip at least 15-20% as a standard. I have been known to go as high as 50% and even 100% when the service was incredible.
User avatar #13 to #6 - xamyomgx (01/14/2012) [-]
My standard for good, hospitable service is 20%. If they slacked and it was obviously busy, I tip 15%, if they were dickish, or really slow for no reason, then they get 10%.. I've only tipped 10% once in my life.
User avatar #487 to #13 - anonymouslive (01/15/2012) [-]
I agree with the first, even if it is slightly high (I usually go 18), but if they're being bitchy, I'll only tip about 12, and if it's just excessive maybe lower. I tend to tip more and be more lenient, though, since I do work in a Restaurant and no how down they can get when they get a truly crap tip.
User avatar #76 to #13 - andimac (01/14/2012) [-]

I like to give them the benefit of the doubt that if I get shitty service, they're just having a bad day. So with bad or no service, I give 10%, regular service I give 15% and if I'm feeling generous or it was really damn good service, I give 20%. The exception is if I have crappy service more than once from the same server, then I don't leave a tip at all.
User avatar #9 to #6 - bestestname (01/14/2012) [-]
If i get a waiter that is rude, i pay the exact check. Down to the last cent.
