Females can be refered to as Pegasisters, but both males and females can be a brony. If you refer to the Bro Code, it specifically dictates that a woman can be a bro, as long as she exemplifies bro-like qualities.

I find the term "pegasister" to be almost offensive. Brony is a mashup of bro and pony, and pony includes all of them; earth, unicorn and pegasis, while pegasister seems specific to pegasus which is only 1/3 of the awesome. Gif unrelated.

"Brony" is for both sexes. It originated from 4chan's /B/ thread. Making it /B/+Pony=Brony
However some girls do prefer the term Pegasister.
