damn near every thing. it used to be all right but it grew into a cancer. think about it. now adays you aint a brony unless you "clop". and i have never met a brony who doesnt have a smorgasbord of pony pics that are of a negative status. now the whole brony community is split into at least 8 groups, 6 choosing the side of there favorite character, one who takes the side of all six, and one who hide themselves from people for being a brony. the entire ensemble of bronies has slowly becvame no more than what people believe it is with just a few good ones slowly corrupted of their own accord.

The fandom got pretty damn big, that's what happens.

people have their own favorite characters, I don't see any SERIOUS conflict between them, but they probably stand out because each character has a unique personality from the next, and so they each attract their own group of fans.

the whole "closet brony" aspect is caused by people finding that they actually enjoy this simple cartoon, when they wouldn't have imagined themselves doing it before. Most have gotten over it, and it's mainly something with newer members.

personally, I'm very happy with the fanbase. It's a community of creative, supportive people, and one that promotes a positive message. Just the vast number of charities that have sprang up speaks of that.
