When I started watching MLP, I told myself:
"I will NEVER buy any MLP toys"
And I didn't.
They SUCK

yea i can understand that,personally in all honesty i believe people can do watever the hell they want as long as its legal, and if your a grown ass man that plays with MLP toys in the comfort of your own home (or just likes collecting them) than thats cool too

But it's still nice to have something that reminds you of the show that physically exists, instead of pictures on your computer.

I always get surprised responses from bronys when pointing this out, but the whole purpose of the show is to sell the toys. These shows were comissioned by Hasbro for the one and only purpose of selling more of their toys. The shows are essentially long advertisements. Commercialism at its best.

That doesn't automatically mean that they should not be watched. Even advertisements can have some entertainment value, but one should not be surprised when someone actually goes out and buys the toys after watching the show.

i like dr who, I own a sonic screwdriver (which actually is also a real screwdriver)
i like the batman cartoon, i have some random batman merch here and there

so i dont see anything wrong with buying my little rainbow dash figurine and having it on my desk at work

Honestly, the merch I had in mind wasn't the custom ones with modelled hair etc, I was talking about the train playset things etc. I don't have a problem with figurines, some of the ones I've seen are kind of awesome. Keep in mind that the brony at my school who buys merch and all that spends his lunchtimes combing its mane :\ . Believe me, I am not self concious about being a brony, it just means Im a fan of a TV show after all. But spending my time styling the manes of plastic ponies? Not my style.

those figurines are mass produced and sold in stores, (but yes some ppl repaint them, and they can look pretty cool)
but ill agree with you the ones with the burshable hair, look stupid and would never buy, (dont even get me started on the pink celestia one or the baby pony toys that look extreemly creepy)

Hey, I'm a brony and I wouldn't buy the toys either, but if that's what people want to do why be so critical of them? It's their life, and if you don't want them to go buy them simply because you don't feel like buying the toys doesn't that make you as bad as the haters who don't want bronies to watch the show because THEY don't like it?

We have a legitimate reason for watching the show, that being the high production quality etc, you know how it goes. But the toys? They're cheap mass produced bullshit that don't even RESEMBLE the characters. Guys who actually buy these pieces of crap have to have gone quite far over the line of obsession, to the point where it ACTUALLY is fucking weird. And of course it's these people that become the face of bronies, thus the constant negativity directed towards us.

I never said that they should or should not, I merely stated that it is fucking creepy. I never bought into that whole 'love and tolerance' shit, so I'm going to judge people and state my mind. In this case, it turns out that lots of guys agreed with me. And you must admit that it's true, when you ask any non-brony to describe a brony, they will almost always associate them with buying pony toys and styling their hair during their free time. I find it annoying that the creepy habits of some rub off on the rest of us. And for the record, my avatar is from a 'roll dubs then roll my profile pic' thread, R34 gives me the shits.

There's no harm in collecting merchandise of things you're a fan of, I mean really.

A fan of star wars might collect the figurines. All the same, a fan of my little pony might collect the toys/various merchandise, there is literally no difference.

If you want to view any sort of difference, then you're buying into the gender role bullshit that people are constantly force feeding us.

We already watching a show that isn't intended for us, collecting the merchandise wont make a difference.

If anyone wants to call me a creep for collecting what I want, things that I want to perpetuate my fandom with, or for doing things like draw fanart/fan content, then they can fuck right off.

Refer to my reply above bro, we're on different tracks here. I'm referring to the merchandise along the lines of train sets and shit like that, and the pony models with the brushable hair. Figurines such as the customs and blindbags are fine I suppose, not my thing by a long shot, but when I see a guy with those, it's very different from seeing a guy alone at lunch combing fluttershy's mane :\

And would it be different if, instead of combing the mane of his toy, he was instead messing with a transformer toy? changing it back and forth from vehicle mode to robot mode?

Honestly, somebody combing a pony's mane wouldn't be so much weirder than the transformer, but with both of them, I would see the person doing it as a bit childish. But then again, I'm quite judgemental of people, I obviously don't make them feel uncomfortable about it, but it's still weird in my opinion.

Well, people often by the merchandise of the things they're fans of.

Why not? they're certainly collectible, it only looks creepy because they're intended for a different demographic.

Adults have been collecting these things for years anyways. Hasbro's even making official pony necklaces with diamond and gold in them, the necklaces themselves costing hundreds of dollars. I'm sure that's not something for a little kid to own.
