Not really.
The big difference is that G1-G3 ponies were all the originals and basis for the current generation while those Dragonball movies were essentially money grabs of the already famous series.

i was so excited for that movie, and i watched the wole thing hoping it would get better...but it NEVER DID!
on a side note halfway through the movie a dude got a text message and the tone was goku charging up his kamehameha we all had a good laugh
