Hell no. Immortality is the most painful existence ever devised. Everyone you ever know will die, and you have to watch it happen.

Friends always fade with time, even when they're living, but an immortal being can carry their friends' good qualities with them in their heart and perpetuate them by breathing life from the past into the present.

Tough choice. I think I would push the button. The 1000 years in exile would suck, but seeing how I would be able to live millions of years, its not that bad.

Now here is where we get tricky.

1. Are we immortal in the sense of eternal youth, or in the ense that we will continue to grow old, but cannot die of old age? There was a man who got immortality of the second kind in Greek mythology. It wasn't very pretty.

2. Since eternal youth is the ideal situation, are we able to be killed via unnatural means (shot, stabbed, etc.) or do we no longer suffer from damage to our bodies? If we still can be killed, just not die of old age, then we will suffocate within minutes of being on the moon. I'm going to gloss over the effects of cosmic radiation on the human body (That's the real reason spacesuits are so thick. Insulation from all that radiation.)

3. Now let's assume we cannot die at all. Do we still feel the effects of suffocation? The average mind would be shattered after 1000 years of feeling suffocated. You would indeed be alive, but wouldn't be able to enjoy it.

4. Assume we do not suffer from the pain of not breathing, we are not affected by radiation, we are in effect now invincible. Space has no way for us to perceive sound. We have all seen the repost about the quietest room in the world, and people going crazy after 45 minutes. Imagine 1000 years.

what is 1000 years when you are infinite? If you have no beginning, if you have no end?

I know it would be horrible to watch my loved ones die one by one but if we think about it, a lot of people live longer than their family and friends. Also, it would mean I have all the time in the world, I could travel wherever I want, learn anything I want and I don't have to think that "No, I don't have anought time for that". I could do whatever I want, like learning dancing, horse riding, drawing....
