Unfortunately for me, I get frustrated beyond all reasoning at each new fad, where people in large groups latch onto whatever new they can find. I don't dig the ponies like so many others do, I don't dislike the show, and I don't dislike people for loving the show. As a matter of fact, I have deep love for my own TV shows, movies, games, and the like, and don't care whether or not people agree with my tastes.

I just want to let my thoughts be known:

Why do people think that if you take anything--and I mean anything--and slap ponies on it, that makes it better? Why are people so crazy about drawing these ponies themselves? Why don't these people that redraw ponies--who possess much greater artistic aptitude than I, when it comes to the drawn arts--funnel their muse into their own creations? Create something new, something fresh, and try to make their own mark on the world.

I, personally, write. But do I sit around and base fan stories on my favorite characters and locations which were birthed from someone else? No. Those belong to others, and I want my own world, that I've crafted, like Faulkner, or Hell, even Hideo Kojima.

This is a stupid place to be saying these things, for true, but I come here to laugh and forget about these things, only to have them be waved in my face.

I apologize for my rant, and once again, I don't mean to try to offend anyone. I don't hate ponies, or pony fans. Just had a question.

TL;DR: It's too damn late for me to be on FunnyJunk.

A very good argument sir. And I do agree, however, I shall give you the reasons as to why we do what we do.

It's less personal satisfaction as it is social. The brony community is a very connected, open group, and being an artist for this fandom myself, I know how fast our work is passed around, which is good because you get feedback a lot faster, and it has a greater chance of passing over more experienced eyes. (And inversely it has a greater chance on being seen by those who hate the show with a passion)

Because of a very quick supply of opinions and support, underground music artists, who most musical producers wouldn't even bat an eye at, were raised from within the span of as short as a few months to be performing live in front of a crowd of thousands and some even being offered record deals. Artists who would otherwise be normal people are now even contacted by the show's creators themselves, some even persuading the actual voice actors to do something for them. And average writers brought up to complete stunning, quite professional works.

It's that chance of recognition, a guaranteed audience, and the joy of just being with friends and passing it around is what makes the fandom the other half of the experience. And pretty much all you have to do is label ponies onto it.

Seeing as you're a writer, though, and reading plenty of our own fictions ourselves, I can certainly say we have some horrible pieces of work, but a few stand out that are quite professional. Fallout: Equestria, for example, being one of the largest fanfictions ever written, is surprisingly original and many consider professional quality, even gaining it's own sub-fandom.

tl;dr: We just use ponies to get other bronies' attention. And while there are definitely some bad and poor quality things that come from our fandom, usually that's just the outside of the picture, and if you look deep enough, you can see some of our better work.
