I'm a massive fan of Adventure Time and Gravity Falls so I tried getting into MLP because it just seemed the kind of thing I'd say I liked in an ironic way whilst secretly liking it. Can someone outline the attraction because I found it really difficulty...girly. Like, are there any cool undertones?

There are quite a few different reasons people like it, but for me it's the fun storylines, the jokes in the show make me laugh, I can quite heavily relate to some of the characters, I like the animation and the cast are heavily involved with the fandom and actually listen to them (probably against their better judgment).

Not everyone's sup of tea though.

If you don't really like it don't force yourself.

Many people liked the simple humour and the "cuteness" of the characters but is not really for everyone. Personally I only like a few chapters, the rest are way too girly (big shock<9

I would imagine that the show was never meant for boys or adults. I haven't watched the show for a long time because I don't want to be called a "brony" or whatever it is. But I remember really liking it. It's not a typical children's show. It was pretty good.

Seeing as I'm a girl I won't get the 'brony' insult poop my way. The lady fans are called Pegasisters, my friend tells me. But glad it's not typical, I like when cartoons have some stuff for an adult community.
My local Comic Book Shop guy tells me that the MLP comics are massive with the lgbt adult community

It IS a girly show, but once you learn to look past that, you start to see the show's qualities.

It could also just not be for you, but I recommend trying to not focus on the "girly" aspects of it so much. It's more cute and friendly than it is girly, and it still has some pretty cool parts to it, like mythological creatures and such.

Maybe I'm too much of a tomboy to get it (but Rainbow Dash is supposed to be a Tomboy) My friend is a pegasister and she wants me to cosplay with her.

In reality, a lot of the episodes have different themes and are a bit more girly than others. Most namely, the first season has more of a girly undertone with more subtle mature tones spread without. However, things get bolder and more dynamic the second season and third season.

But I watch it personally for how well they flesh out the characters. Unlike most tv shows, the characters evolve and get better as time progresses, and shows deep personal flaws that they learn to overcome. (and some episodes where they literally mentally break down) Yet also the innocence and theme of the show just gives me a simple joy whenever I watch it. Tis not for everyone, obviously, but it appeals to a lot of people in some way.

If I were you, I'd try an episode from season 2 to start out. Possibly episodes 1 and 2, or 3. If you don't like that, then most likely you won't like the rest of the show.

I started watching the first ever episode and it did seem a bit dull, but it is true that a lot of shows get better as the script fleshes out a bit more. Will give it a go and not be so skeptical. Thanks.

The first season.
Sweet jesus, more imprtantly Episode 1, the Two-Parter, aka the good old 'Show Start Movie'.
To be honest, it's noticably for kids, especially girls. Just the whole trust-bravery-etc stuff pokes too much into the eye.
But to tbe honest, Nightmare Moon's intro is so badass, literally making em shake in fear and whisper into their ears.
(Even when Twi played Captain Obvious there.)

Yeah brisineo is right, the first few episodes of the first season aren't all that great. The first season doesn't get enjoyable until maybe the fourth or fifth episode.

I just like it because it's a happy show, it's nice to watch when you're feeling down. That's about it for me
