I hate the bending style in Legend of Korra. It is all static and, well, it just looked like they are doing modern day kick-boxing and the elements were added in. In the original avatar, everything was more fluid and every movement seemed to really embody the element. I guess that is symbolism for how bending has become nothing but a tool of convenience during Korra's time or something, but still ,it is annoying.

Well, it's lost the art form of it. The air benders still stay true to the art form. But the pro benders fight the way they do, because that's what you do in boxing and MMA. You stay light on your toes. But yeah, I think that's showing how it's slowly becoming less an art and spirituality, and more a way to fight.

Yeah, It makes me really miss the original avatar though. LoK seems to be the opposite of Avatar in every conceivable way, shape, and form.

Antagonist in avatar-Bending master, government head
Antagonist in korra-Anti-bending terrorist leader
technique in avatar- spritiual, artistic, a gift that is cherished and respected
technique in korra- a weapon and tool used to further ones self in the most efficient way possible
setting in avatar- All around every single kingdom, in a constant state of travel
setting in korra- One big city.

Isn't that how things changed in real life too? For a long time we had enemies that were government leaders, or nations. Now we have enemies that are ideas, without a face. For a while, science and technologies were used by the religious to study creation. Now it's used to further ourselves, and for our convenience. Not to mention the anti-benders saying that every war in every era was caused by bending. For a long time, everybody lived out in the country, farming, dealing with bandits, traveling long distances, etc. Now everybody lives in big cities.

It's a progression of humanity, and because of that, everybody is viewing the world differently, viewing technology and society differently. It's a critique on us.

Yeah, I suppose so. I guess what I liked about Avatar was that it was a simpler time is all. It is really an eloquent way they are making this message, but I think I'll still always prefer the original avatar over that modern day change. By the way, that prison warden who was Toph's daughter- any ideas on who the father would be?

Hmmmm... the father... no idea. I would like it if they didn't have every single major character born of some person from the episode before. Just saying.

Yeah, it's different, but I'm glad. It's a new series, so it shouldn't be the exact same. I think actually, that since bending was basically just martial arts with elements added (all the bending styles were based on certain martial arts) that it's also just the modernization of fighting. Before, martial arts was a spiritual practice, and a way of life. Now, it's just a bragging right and a self defense tool, and something you go to every few nights.

To be fair, they killed off Sokka and he has no known children. Though it is so blatantly obvious that the fire-bending brother is Zuko's grandson/relative it isn't even funny.

I guess that is true, and it is partly why modern day martial arts doesn't hold the same interest. It is an exercise more than anything now a days.

Actually, Zuko's daughter is the fire lord (lady?) because he retired.

Precisely. So I think that's what they're illustrating, as that's what happened in Asia during the World Wars and such.
