I think it's important to remember that she took the gem from one of her outfits, and we know how much she loves her outfits, so it does have sentimental value and like others already pointed out, they were able to buy an industrial sized pet groomer from it.
Sounds pretty valueable to me, and it would seem that people are just butthurt over the gems size.
