Ok, I haven't played it in a while so I may be wrong.

1. Talk to everyone except AJ. See everything everyone has to say because some have multiple dialogues. Also, make sure to talk to pinkie pie in sugar cube corner.
2. Talk to AJ and make normal muffins.
3. Talk to everyone again. (do not talk to pinkie pie or enter sugar cube corner)
4. go to see Zecora again.
5. ?????
6. Profit

Hope this helps more. If not, just do everything you can do without triggering the other endings, and it should work out.

does everyone include the pets?

not sure. It doesn't hurt to try though.
