It doesn't really have any mature scenes per se. Because, yeah, it is a show with a prime demographic of little girls. There are a few suggestive scenes that have connotations about them.

For example, there is a scene where a happy, joyful song goes into a funeral (a casket in just visible) and just carries on. That is quite odd, in my opinion for such a show.

Odd, but not nearly mature. If it was then Avatar would be unsuitable for kids since death makes up about 80% of the plot.

Death is no longer a mature topic, there's pretty much no toon anymore where it doesn't play a part. In fact it's just as commonly used for humor as it is casually.
You'll have to find some reference to sex, (proper) insanity, manic depression, non-hallucinogenic drugs (apart from the typical steroid freak), or something similarly adult-themed.

No, Avatar has neither a manic depression or heavy drugs reference.
I'm merely pointing out that MLP is in no way as mature as you make it out to be. It is merely a normal 20th century cartoon with a girly theme (note: this is not the same as saying it's a girls' cartoon).
It is no more mature than Pokémon is, but compared to that it lacks the impression the whole franchise had on our generation.

I didn't "make it out" to be anything, just was giving you some references/slit bits of jokes that the show does (seeing as how you were doing the same with avatar).

Agreed, people should be able to watch whatever they like. I mean, if target demographics meant anything, I wouldn't watch half the things I do. I watch Golden Girls from time to time, that show's hilarious, and as a 27 year old man, I highly doubt I'm in the target demographic.
