but the last codex RUINED THEM D: now they have amorsave 4+ and well'be back is at 5+
and they have totaly changed their story so now they arnet fakking awesome robots with all of their soul consumed by the C'tan exept for their hatred for all the living things

in the old codex the c'tan tranferred their souls to their robot bodies but when they did that they consumed everything exept their hatred for the living

and now their entire souls where transferred and the c'tan did not tamper with their souls, so the story for why necron warriors are soulles is because everytime they are destroyed in battle they lose a little bit of their personality ;_;

and in the new codex there are civil conflicts ongoing between necrons because of a mental malfunktion in one of the overlords so he thinks he is alive, he capture prisoners of war and the other lords are sending assasins to kill him

and one lord is a "prize collector" he once captured an entire regiment of catachans because he wanted to

Robot zombies with auto-repair capability. Only total disintegration prevents them from coming back to (un)life.

If you think Necrons are awesome you should check out their masters, the C'tan, energy entities that eat entire suns and feast on the essence (=soul) of the living.
One of them once punched a living being so hard it created the instinct we call "fear of death" today in all things living.
Also, no matter how hard you kill them, they only break into thousands of shards and reassemble themselves over millions of years if need be.
Oh, and each and every single shard is sentient and conscious and can royally fuck you over in its own right.

And if you think C'tan are awesome/overpowered, you should check out the greater daemons of the Warp. And even they're just slaves and servants to the Dark Gods, who in turn are only living parts of Chaos Undivided.
And we don't even know for sure that's really where the ladder of power ends.
