Personally, the only way you'd find me with a pony toy is if it were show-accurate. Or if it was a huggable plushie.

On the point, you do what you want. If you feel like getting a pony toy, you go do that.

Just because you're a brony doesn't automatically mean you have to like everything about the fandom.
