They don't realize, Robert Patterson hate's Twilight. He's just an actor, and has admitted his dislike for the series
He's not the sparkly vampire all the time, he was pretty pro in the Goblet of Fire.
I'm not going to defend him too much, because he's really not that great of an actor, but I don't think people would be willing to snap at Sean Connery for staring in a bad film.
