Guess what I did for the first time!. I have attempted to give blood for the last 4 years but something always got in the way. Either I had to work, lost my I.D

I have attempted to give blood for the last 4 years but something always got in the way. Either I had to work, lost my I.D., or worked myself up to much. Today I took this picture as a luck charm and finally made it. Almost passed out but I pulled through.

It doesn't matter if your a brony or a hater, donate blood if you're able.

I'm O+ so I can give my blood to anyone. I've donated before even though I am afraid of needles

Is there an easy way for me to check what my blood type is? Should I call my hospital, or my Insurance?
User avatar #42 to #41 - awesomesaucy (09/04/2013) [-]
If you go to the doctor or anything it costs money, the best free way is to go give blood, they give you a donor card with your type on it.
User avatar #43 to #42 - peanutbraddle (09/04/2013) [-]
Thank you.. I donate Plasma at a Plasmapheresis center on a regular basis, but they never tell you your damned blood type.

What about people with a negative rhesus factor?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but It's actually O- that is universally compatible. But don't fret, O+ is the most common type (1 in 3) so donating it is still very important.

O- master race reporting in. I've donated several times. I stopped for a while a few years ago, but started again after becoming a brony.

Anon has a point, Mate. Low blood pressure(Hypotension) could mean internal bleeding, get yourself checked out. Hell, you may even need blood yourself.
User avatar #60 to #39 - pineapplechunkss ONLINE (09/04/2013) [-]
low blood presser runs in my family and I wanted to give blood
#28 to #22 - anon (09/03/2013) [-]
You got turned down because you werent a suiteable donor, donating a lot of blood on low blood presure can be dangerous.

Blaming yourself for this is just incredibly stupid. Get the **** over it, and get that low blood presure checked out.

If you would have given blood, your body would not have been able to handle being short a pint. You would have most likely suffered from anemia and might have to actually receive a blood donation.

You don't get to be a hero for giving blood. You get to be a hero for showing up at the donor center and trying.

I would like to give blood whenever possible. The only problem is that after getting blood taken I tend to have seizures.
User avatar #70 to #51 - penguinstampede (09/04/2013) [-]
well that sounds potentially problematic

I give blood every time I get the opportunity and it's the main reason I haven't got a tattoo yet. Because if I get a tattoo I can't give blood.

A+ Master Race right here
User avatar #38 to #31 - XzipitX (09/04/2013) [-]
you can, it's just if you have wrist tattoos that they would have to go through. i have tattoos and i donate here and there.
User avatar #68 to #31 - halotalim (09/04/2013) [-]
I'm not getting a tattoo for a few reasons.
1. blood donation
2. I am personally against tattooing on my body
3. I am an organ donor and when I die, someone is going to need my skin and organs for skin grafts and the like.
User avatar #71 to #68 - kyrozor ONLINE (09/04/2013) [-]
If I get a tattoo, I like to think that someone gets a bitchin' tattoo as well as new skin.
User avatar #32 to #31 - powertrooper (09/04/2013) [-]
actually, it depends on the age and the number of tattoos you have. I have 2 tattoos and they're old enough that I can donate.
User avatar #37 to #32 - kyrozor ONLINE (09/04/2013) [-]
Yeah but I mean if I get one I can't give blood for a while.
User avatar #29 - aconfuseddonut (09/03/2013) [-]
There was this episode of the Amanda Show that I saw as a little kid, where a kid started to donate blood, as they were finishing up they couldn't turn off the machine, at the end the kid looked like a deflated balloon.
And that is why I'm terrified of giving blood.
#49 to #29 - justaredshirt (09/04/2013) [-]
Its actually pretty safe.

If you donate whole blood, its powered by your own blood flow. They insert the needle into your arm and part of your blood goes out through the needle, You squeeze your hand to promote the flow and when the bag is full, it drops from its scale, and the nurse removes the needle. You can even stop squeezing your hand and that will slow down the process.
User avatar #25 - mrjweezy ONLINE (09/03/2013) [-]
the first time i gave blood they put the needle in 4 to 5 times each arm because they couldn't find a good vein.
Few months later i give blood again and tell them the story on how they couldn't find it and the nurse says " Are you ******* kidding me your arms look like road maps!!"
User avatar #12 - jacodpwns (09/03/2013) [-]
I cant donate blood for 2 reasons

1. I hate needles

2. I took a medication a year ago that requires me to wait 3 years to donate blood
User avatar #13 to #12 - halotalim (09/03/2013) [-]
I hate needles too, so giving blood was a huge step for me.

I can uderstand about the medicine though.
#17 to #12 - westpphi (09/03/2013) [-]
i have the same problem, i hate the idea of a piece of metal being driven under my skin, but i still donate blood every 2 months. i almost see it as a kind of therapy. and believe me, once you survived a blood donating needle, you will laugh at the tiny things that most doctors use.

so think about it, and once you are allowed to donate again, do the right thing.

My unit was giving blood one day and when they measured my heartbeat they said it was only 35 bpm so they wouldn't take any from me.
User avatar #5 to #2 - halotalim (09/03/2013) [-]
Normally I work myself up so much that I read 100+ bpm. I was glad I got to get it under today.
