"Yeah, I watch MLP"
"So you're gay?"
"No, I just like the story and the animation style"
"Whatever agrajag, it's ok to be gay, I won't judge you"
"But seriously, I'm straight. I just like the show"
"It's OK to explore your sexuality. Is that why you don't have a girlfriend?"
And that's why I don't tell people.

Bronies hide the fact that they watch mlp because of the immediate stereotypization that comes along with the show , like a questioned sexuality or other certaint attributes. That is why most bronies defend the show so much , because they want to be able to watch their cartoon in peace , withouth being considered weird just because of the cartoons reputation
its not more of hiding it, its just more of how stupid it would feel to confess you watch a tv show, the idea of needing to confess that you watch my little pony is stupid so we dont, but it would be a bit weird (or i just overthink it like a lot of us do) for your parents or siblings to ask you if you were the one watching mlp and saying yes
