Sadly, it is quite possible to shoot through the wing of a Zero with a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The wings were only about a quarter of an inch thick, made of aluminum. Out of all the famed WWII aircraft, the Mitsubishi Zero, or "Zeke", as many American pilots called it, is the flimsiest of them all.
