Not sure if this is implied, or I'm being a fucktard here, But perhaps both Chrysalis and Cadence both loved Shining, which led to their falling out. I'm not sure if thats an entirely good reason to take an entire country though

my only problem with starswirl the bearded background story is that he is a nonsensical joke about being a harry potter.

Maybe if it were a normal old chrysalis or whatever it's called, but since it's the queen of the chrysalis I can't really feel.
