I agree I was originally very disappointed. Until I realized this was a season opener not a finale. It wasn't supposed to go out with a bang, this was almost like a preview of what is to come. All the hints it dropped about Twilight's future studies were definitely worth it in my opinion.

I think it's because of the villain. Everyone loved discord. King Sombra was basically an object who spoke like twice during both episodes.

Sombra didn't do shit either. He was just an annoying presence. And then they fucked his shit up. Night mare moon: Redeemed. Discord: Imprisoned. Chrysalis: Banished. Sombra: Fucking dead

Yeah, I know. I guess the reason sauron worked is because a dark mysterious villain takes a long time to develop. 3 books or 9 hours of film vs 40 minutes.
