I had a GF from India who had parents that were part of an arranged marriage. Honestly from the stories my ex told me, they were miserable. They were also very set in their ways and from my understanding wanted my ex to be with an Indian guy or have an arranged marriage. Basically made her life a living hell all the time for being an "American Girl" in her sensibilities. Felt pretty bad for her to be honest because she was scared to admit to her parents she even had friends who were boys let alone a boyfriend.

I agree that Feminist should really focus on those issues of woman's right but since it happens in another country and doesn't immediately effect them, they just don't care. At most they'll write a sad FB post but that's it. Hypocrites.

First off, I'm 99% sure that ffinity's girlfriend's parents were Indians living in America, not Indians living in India.

Second of all, I gain moral authority when someone else's rights are being infringed by said culture. You can do all sorts of barbaric, weird things to yourself in the name of your culture, but when you start ******* over someone else because they choose to live with another culture, that's where I draw the line. She lives in America, she wants the American culture, I'll stand up for that.

1. I was under the impression that she was international and her parents were in India, that's just my experience with Indians though so who knows how it was with him.

2. I was working under the basis that she was Indian, and just living in America. If she was a citizen, then their culture has no place in the states. But their culture has every right to practice whatever it wants, in their own country.

3. I know cultures aren't equal, just as races arent. I'm not about to tell everyone ti give up what makes them unique. Variety is the spice of life.

My EX and her parents moved to America to literally get away from India. Why would they do that if the culture of that region was that of peace and prosperity. She told me that she was afraid of rape because of how repressed the men were. In some of the more extreme provinces young girls who have not even hit puberty are targeted for rape and the police do nothing. A woman was gang raped in her village for trying to marry out of her caste.

My Ex's parents were moderate at best and even they moved away. The extreme Indians will ******* kill you breaking an arranged marriage. There is nothing good or pleasant about living under that kind of environment.

There is nothing good or just about how they hurt thier own country to uphold old tradition. I defend their actions in so far as it's a matter of cultural preservation. If Indians were to change their traditions, it's not really my business is it? It's not my culture, or my people. If they were to, for example, slap their daughter in my house for disagreeing with them, there's be a problem. But in their own country, their way is the way, plain and simple, no matter how retarded it is.

I agree, I've been trying to say it's not up to is to force every culture to be like us. They must make the reforms themselves if they want, but we can't do it for them.

I'm a traditionalist, I really dislike the decline of western culture into this modernity and consumer culture. It's bland and inhuman, and I don't want anyone else to follow the path.

I don't want to change their people, culture, or religions at all. I just want to preserve demographics. It's not a matter of sensibilities. Though some of the people would argue that all whites are "our people", thus we're allowed to have a say in what goes on in the Eurosphere.

My EX was miserable under her parents. Her parents would beat her if she didn't listen to them because woman are suppose to respect the wishes of the parents especially the father. You really think that part of Indian Culture should be upheld. I'm all for respecting the parents but they resorted to harsh punishment to make her more obedient and I found it appalling. Gave her a lot of anger issues and relationship problems which is partly why we broke up. I do not blame her because she grew up in a toxic environment that was a product of Indian Culture.

the thing is that it doesnt just happen in other countries, it happens here far less often but it still happens. my brother has is dating an indian girl right now and for the past 6 months they have been trying to sell her to some 38 year old (shes 18) guy in india basically for his land. they guy has less than 5th grade education but comes from money. they have been straight up blackmailing her, they took her car cuz her mom had her name on it even tho she paid for the whole thing and they racked up over $1000 on her phone bill. for a while they were trying to get her to come on a "vacation" with them to india to visit family but shes scared they will just trap her there and she will never be seen again. its a shame cuz she does have some family there she would like to see

This makes me really angry, the mentality of the Indian culture is incredibly messed up. I'm about to sound like some SJW white knight but screw it because I gotta say they treat woman like cattle to be sold, just so the family can make a profit. To hell with the girls happiness. Dude for a time the US had a culture of slavery, that doesn't make it right. Some things in this world are just out dated and people are trying to cling to them. They also still have a caste system in India where you are BORN in a social status and you must stay there. I think its something like if you are the lowest caste you are essentially there to serve the higher caste. Personally I don't think there is anything intolerant about criticizing their culture, inherently I think what they are doing is wrong and I saw it personally with my EX.

yeah thats exactly it, her whole family turned against her, the saddest part is that her younger sisters (like 13 and 9 or around those ages) have sided with the parents cuz they are so ******* indoctrinated and warped. shes been moved out on her own for a little while now and is sueing her parents over the car (ironically angry texts from her sisters are going to be key incriminating evidence against the parents) but it really just crushes me to think that her sisters are probably going to volunteer themselves to be sold once they are old enough

That is the sad thing too, is that amidst all of the sensationalism of small issues by social and televised media, alot of the actual problems like this get glossed over in favor of what's been "trendy" in the news lately.

People are too busy making up issues and end up ignoring the real problems at hand, and it's just painful to watch.
