Yeah, but it's like saying the the American Revolution was fought between the British and the French and British.

By 1812 we were identifying as Canadians and we essentially our own country, they just sent over navy forces and commanders.

Except the forces that burned down the white house were british, from Britian, not Canadian. That's like saying the French seized Berlin in 1945, just because you were part of an alliance doesn't mean you did anything.
