i thought it was WW2 because germany and the soviet union got bits of poland at the end, and the soviet union invaded as well as the germans.

No, its the Nazi-Soviet pact in 1939 when they decided to divide Poland between USSR and Germany, it uses the German imperial flag because everytime polandball comics refer to Germany as "stronk" it makes it a big angry imperial square

There's me thinking explaining it in the description would solve this confusion

Its more of a late 1800's thing where Germany and Russia divided Poland between themselves
