Nato was created to counter the soviet union and their game plan hasnt changed: Anihiliating and dividing the russian territories to avoid their rise to superpower status once again.

Well, that is basically the moon landing for you. The objective was to get a man on the moon equivalent of catching the snatch and you have to really outperform them to topple that.
