I work in Germany now and from what I noticed they take back to the past to much. Like a girl from work didn't know their national anthem because they do not learn it from school. They cannot be proud of being german because polytical correctness makes people condescend on people that are proud. I think it is stupid, you have a very nice country, nice people and the war was ******* ages ago.

but we never, ever sing it. unless it's football (soccer) world cup. than it's the other way around. everyone is then condescending to people who are NOT proud.

political correctness is going so far here that we are renaming a bunch of streets who were named after people who might have been pro-nazi during the nazitimes. and we are also renaming some food. **** this **** . i wanna keep my Zigeunerschnitzel.

It's not just because of the war, I reckon. I live in Scandinavia, and here a lot of the children songs, and nationalistic songs sung in school when my mother and father grew up, is banned from school and is considered offensive against other cultures, even though they just praise the nature and refer to history.

I'm from Germany, and I learned the national anthem in school.

As far as national pride goes, it simply not something that is forced onto people nowadays in Germany, so you are more likely to realize how stupid it is in the first place. I have seen interviews with people who claimed that they were proud of being a German. When asked what they are proud of, they always gave answers like "Beethoven... Schiller..." but when asked if they don't feel guilty for WW2 and the Third Reich, they say "No, that was long ago and I had nothing to do with that!" Yea... so apparently, they had some involvement in writing Beethoven's symphonies 200 years ago, but the Third Reich was too long ago.

I prefer to be proud of things that I did myself, not of things that others did. It's not a matter of political correctness. It's a matter of simple logic that seems to elude a large portion of humanity.

All of the above becomes invalid when he Football World Cup comes around and I turn into a flag-waving nationalist for four weeks.

Und, warum bist du stolz darauf? Was an dem, was Deutschland erreicht hat, hast du selbst bewirkt?

Wie gesagt, ich bin grundsätzlich nur stolz darauf, was ich selbst erreicht habe. Die Tatsache, dass ich Deutscher bin, ist kompletter Zufall, und so toll Deutschland auch sein mag, hat das Land mir persönlich nichts davon zu verdanken. Es würde für Deutschland keinen messbaren positiven oder negativen Unterschied machen, wenn ich nie gelebt hätte. Also auf was soll ich an Deutschland so stolz sein? Das wunderschöne Rheintal? Den Kölner Dom? Nürnberger Lebkuchen? Beethovens Neunte? Die starke Wirtschaft? All das ist nicht mein Verdienst, also bin ich auch nicht stolz darauf. Ich bin nur stolz auf meine eigenen Verdienste, und auch ohne Antifa-Fanatiker zu sein, runzel ich die Stirn über Leute, die stolz auf die Verdienste anderer Leute sind.

Nationalstolze Leute sind meistens Leute, die selbst nichts erreicht haben und deshalb nichts haben, worauf sie selbst stolz sein können. Also müssen sie sich an irgendeine erfolgreiche Gruppe dranheften. Das ist dann ein Fußballverein, eine Religion, ein Land, etc. - alles irgendwie komplett willkürlich ausgewählt aber mit viel Energie bejubelt.
