In all honesty, as an American, I have nothing but respect for the French. The Foreign Legion is cool as hell, the French Resistance were brave trying to take their country back, and the US would not have been its own country if it hadn't been for them. Thanks Frenchies.

Yeah, In Spain we know that feel, we helped as much as France, but then they blew the USS Maine (ACR-1) up blaming us and starting a war.

**reginleif rolled image** You guys have it all wrong, Americans and the French are closer to each other than the English and Americans, sharing a common philosophy on man's rights , fair representation and not having to grovel to another person because he carries a fancy title.

These shared values are what fueled both revolutions in between such short years of each other, and why even then the nation was divided on whether to support closer English ties or French ones.

Just because the leadership of a country is in cahoots with each other does not necessarily mean that the people share a common goal or that they even like each other. Look at places like Saudi Arabia...... I'm not "down" with their sharia, I don't respect what they do to their migrant workers, and I don't approve of any nation that doesn't have free speech.... but just cause Barack is on good terms with Abdullah doesn't mean I'm on good terms with Achmed the citizen. :/

Britain's leaders are on good terms with our President, but that doesn't mean the Brits themselves like us (as most Polls show), or that they themselves are likeable people.

When's the last time you found out someone was French because that's the first thing they mentioned? Now compare that to the way you find out who is British? Oh don't worry that Limey son of a bitch will TELL you he's British along with an entire lecture on how fat and stupid you are, and god forbid you mention soccer because hemight implode. .

I mean I get it, Brits collaborate with the US on some of its more controversial actions.... but when you get down to it, they really are a greedy, selfish, arrogant people who do it to stay relevant.

They get angry over some bust of Churchill, but when faced with the fact that they ruined the livelihood of thousands of Americans in the gulf with their company..... the ONLY thing their government had to say was.

"Can you keep it down with the rhetoric, you're hurting our retirees stock value"

The Quasi-War ended the Franco-American alliance.
In essence, the aristocracy in America though technically, they weren't noble got pissy when the peasants overthrew the French monarchy, and sided with the British MONARCHY against the French REPUBLIC though we never declared war on France, technically . The cuntishness of our country runs quite deeply, I'm afraid.

The people in America originally supported the French revolution until the revolutionaries started murdering innocents by the thousands.

Well the French Monarchy was the ally of America at the time. They kinda were beheaded. So the Jacobins took power for several years and ****** everything up starting with the XYZ affair and the Quasi War. After that, America was like " **** France".

I'm American and I like the French better than the English.

I kinda feel close to them with France being the only other country that has to take as much **** as the USA does.
