And Germans may not wear their national colors, display pride in their country or sing their national anthem, it would be best if they didn't ever say "Germany" louder than you would whisper in class so as not to get caught.

That's unfortunately true. In no other country there's so much self-hatred for the own history like in germany.

It's probably good, really. If all countries had less nationalism there'd likely be less war.

I think, that every nation needs values like family, traditions and nation, without them the individual just becomes more manipulable. We get influenced without cease everyday by the news, commercials, etc. which are trying to tell us what we should buy, what's good and what's bad,... These values are like anchors, which keep us grounded and conveyance the solidarity among each other.
I don't think that there would be more wars, or more hate between countries just because they value their national identity.

instead of deutschland we say 'schland . it's quite acceptable when you drank enough beer.
