In case you guys are wondering, Nanking is a Chinese city that the Japanese invaded during WW2, and they committed absolutely horrible atrocities there. They raped little girls, forced men to rape their mothers, skinned men alive in front of their families, and other unspeakable **** . It's seriously on par with what the Nazis did.
User avatar #35 to #13 - unknowntablets (11/02/2013) [-]
watch "men behind the sun" and you'll see what plainarcane means.

worse, at least the nazis didn't fill the river with human torsos

Well, the SS in German occupied Russia did throw Russian babies out of second story windows and catch them on their bayonets for fun; the only reason they stopped is because it made too much of a mess. It's hard to imagine anything worse than that. But if I had to choose, I'd say that what the Japanese did to the Chinese during WW2 was worse than what the Nazis did. But really what we're doing is comparing pure evil with pure evil and trying to decide which pure evil is worse.
User avatar #18 to #17 - herecomesjohnny (11/02/2013) [-]
holy **** i wasn't aware of that, terrifying stuff

The Japanese did something similar in Nanking, mostly by using prisoners, including children (and sometimes babies) for bayonet practice. Pretty ****** up, if you ask me.

Actually, as unpopular as it is to side against Japan on the internet, the government does not officially admit any of its war crimes. To the extent that they make it illegal to print it in their history books. That's pretty messed up if you ask me...

If you look up "The Rape of Nanking" you'll see some really freaking horrible stuff. Holocaust-worthy stuff (also the stuff they did to Korea was pretty messed up). I understand that governments of the past should not have any bearings on what a government does now, but its a government's responsibility to own up to its past - to admit its wrong-doings so that it can improve.

They pretty much brainwash their citizens. I lived in Japan for a couple of years, and they have a serious superiority complex. Sure, they are polite and well mannered, but they look down on us "gaijin", and it's really unsettling. The ironic thing is that the international Japanese people that I've met - the ones that have left their home country to live in others - are probably the most worldly, open-minded people I've ever known. And I think it's because they made a conscious decision to get out of the subliminally propaganda-perpetuated society, and into the world.

These very same international Japanese people tell me that when they go back to Japan, people treat them differently. As if they were inferior and corrupt by the outside world. And if they want to re-enter universities or institutions, they must first undergo a "rehabilitation" program, to ensure that they are Japanese enough to be a part of the society.

TL;DR: The Japanese government (not necessarily its people) is pretty freaking scary

That's why I'm glad not to live there. Do you think their superiority complex is enforced by the fact they lost WW2?

Isn't there a list on the internet of how many times Japan has apologized though? I don't care too much to look it up but I'm hoping someone reads this and does it for me cause I'm a lazy **** .
#36 to #9 - endospore ONLINE (11/02/2013) [-]
They... They have apologized for war crimes, though. They do so very frequently, as a matter of fact, even as recently as 2012.

September 6, 1997: Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto said: "In 1995, on the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Government of Japan expressed its resolution through the statement by the Prime Minister, which states that during a certain period in the past, Japan's conduct caused tremendous damage and suffering to the people of many countries, including China, and the Prime Minister expressed his feeling of deep remorse and stated his heartfelt apology, while giving his word to make efforts for peace. I myself was one of the ministers who was involved in drafting this statement. I would like to repeat that this is the official position of the Government of Japan. During the summit meeting that I had during my visit to China, I have made this point very clear in a frank manner to the Chinese side. Premier Li Peng said that he concurs completely with my remarks" [emphasis added by me so I didn't have to write a tl;dr]

source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_war_apology_statements_issued_by_Japan

Also note that I'm not disagreeing with any of your other points and believe you when you say they don't print it in their history books. That IS bad, but every country does things like that. I don't remember learning about any one of these en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_war_crimes war crimes (not to mention the fact we still use landmines and other questionable practices like drone strikes) in school. Again, it's bad not to mention them, but not inexcusable.

They also did some ****** up things in the Philippines back in WWII. The Palawan Massacre was sick, and that was just one event. They sounded an air raid alarm and told the Filipino and American POWs to head to the air raid shelter; it was a trick. They doused the people in the shelter with gasoline and torched them. A lot more atrocities were done during World War II, but then again, the Americans did their atrocities to the Filipinos and the Spanish did their atrocities too. We have been ****** with for centuries.

not surprising, many countries think we're too patriotic for our own good (USA), they haven't been to Japan, ever notice how ethnocentric their shows are? You rarely if ever see a show outside Japan (within this world not a fantasy world), a black person, a person who's not a brunette, let alone a fat guy! Most shows set in Japan have scrawny brunettes living somewhere close or in Tokyo. Much like us when we do film (lots of films set in NYC) but we atleast try to open up with variety as to where the show/movie is set.

One of the world's leaders in technology and science, the only fellow asian country who gets anywhere "near" that being South Korea and that would be that. Harboring a vast amount of top-tier manufacturers and market leaders in fields as automobile industry or commercial and consumer level electronics. That combined with a work ethic of the population unmatched anywhere in the world makes Japan one of the driving forces in technological innovation and therefore our current way of human advancement.

Don't reduce a country down to tentacle-rape schoolgirl porn.
