I love the Settlers of Catan, and I feel that the rage that ensues by playing it is worse than Monopoly.

But unlike Monopoly, you can play it cooperatively.

Also, Monopoly is way to unrealistic. Rich people can go to jail and have to pay taxes.

Yeah.. that's because he got disqualified from the last time he played Monopoly.

Yeah, there's hardly any capitalism in America. Capitalism is voluntary trade between parties without the threat of violence from the state. It often get's confused with corporatism, thanks to our lovely state run "educational" (indoctrination) system, the marriage of government and businesses in which the government basically grants fiscal immunity to the CEOs of business's, so they don't have to be responsible with their company. Mussolini called it fascism. Also, monopolies can't exist in a free-market ('real' capitalism). It's only thanks to the government enforcing regulations passed by politicians that are bribed by a company/ies that with the threat of violence that only a government can use that any company can rule supremely in any particular market by preventing competition from competing. Jus sayin.
#27 to #14 - anon (11/15/2013) [-]
corporatism stems from capitalism, and while we dont have true capitalism we do have regulated capitalism.

"Capitalism is an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market." "Corporatocracy, in social theories that focus on conflicts and opposing interests within society, denotes a system of government that serves the interest of, and may be run by, corporations and involves ties between government and business. Where corporations, conglomerates, and/or government entities with private components, control the direction and governance of a country, including carrying out economic planning notwithstanding the 'free market' label."

Corporatism is what happens when you have a government interfere in economics by enforcing particular tariffs on goods which benefits local produces in that they have less competition from companies outside their borders or by passing regulations on trade and production that would otherwise be monitored by competing companies, consumers, and/or privately funded research institutes. Capitalism isn't to blame though. Only because we have a government that can use violence do companies seek out politicans to pass regulations in their favor to stifle competition. If a company tried to enter the market and wished to compete with another that is already using the state that company is going to face some serious difficulties in doing so.

Yeah, but before the progressive era in the states was much less regulated and there still were huge monopolies on steel and rails. So if regulation doesn't work and no regulation doesn't work nothing works.
User avatar #33 to #28 - noblexfenrir (11/15/2013) [-]
Monopolies by their very nature cannot last, they are stable only up until the point they no longer control the variables around them. Their monopolistic foundations are built upon a foundation that can easily be uprooted through new products or fierce competition that exploits where they are weak.

You have to stop looking at monopolies as horrible constructs that need to be avoided, and realize they are expected out of a free market system.

New Zealand's Board Game;
The Amazing Moa Hunt.
The game is about stealing the ancient Moa eggs, foot prints, and bones; ruining some of life's precious artifacts. You are one of the 4 native birds: Kea, Kiwi, Little Blue Penguin (actual name), and Kea. You have a picture of NZ in the middle and have to guess the name of a town, and if you get it right, you successfully take over the town/city.
You can also steal other players' stolen goods.
Try beat that!
