Don't grocery stores also sell alcohol? I'm in canada, we don't have that except quebec

Grocery stores do sell alcohol, bars don't close till 2:30am on weekdays and 6:00am on weekends, and I live down the road from a brewery. Party like we're in South Korea

My mom used to work as a bartender and she would tell this story about how people would offer to buy her a drink, and she would tell them that she wanted a shot of everclear. The story went that she would take a shot of water, and then pocket the money. But knowing her what really happened is she would take the shot of everclear, but still pocket the money.
User avatar #77 to #67 - thebestpieever (02/06/2014) [-]
Can you do that? Can you hit on the bartender offering to buy them a drink? That's genius!
#82 to #77 - carcassofgorguts (02/06/2014) [-]
Even when I saw gorgeous bartenders I'd never hit on them, you know they've been hit on by every dude and are impenetrable walls in regards to that **** .
User avatar #83 to #82 - thebestpieever (02/06/2014) [-]
Very often the best way is just to treat them as a person. Something as simple as saying hi, asking for their recommendation and drink, and regarding them as more than flesh lights with legs is often a good way.
#84 to #83 - carcassofgorguts (02/06/2014) [-]
Good advice, I won't be using it though I don't do bars anymore and a relationship will both keep me from the door.
#85 to #82 - cobrafan (02/06/2014) [-]
The best way to "hit" on them is to give them a nice tip and some kind words.
User avatar #79 to #77 - linktheherooftime (02/06/2014) [-]
Well you can, but of course I'm sure some of the more attractive bartenders get hit on like this quite a bit . But I only know because people have told me, since I'm not old enough to drink. Some people do it because the bartender is on their feet all day, and it's a kind gesture. and If nothing else it's a way to get on the bartender's good side.
User avatar #81 to #79 - thebestpieever (02/06/2014) [-]
I've hit on bartenders, successfully actually. But buying them a drink never occurred to me. That's awesome.
#58 - mrprismriver (02/06/2014) [-]
I am Korean and I can confirm this. Although it's kinda skewed. Sake and Soju are only 14% to 18%. Real liquor is 40%.
Koreans drink a lot of freaking soju. A LOT. OF SOJU. . .
A LOT.
#91 to #58 - goomoonryong (02/06/2014) [-]
I was in South Korea 8 months ago or so with other people from my school, and one night 7 of us were at a resturant and we got really drunk off soju, so I can see why you Koreans like it.

**** I generally clear out about 20 on a light Friday night.
That's with a good few four packs for good measure.
Irish blood too stronk.
May be a bit of binge drinking/light alcoholism but even a small Friday night like that really drives away the voices that urge me to execute every stupid person i see.

But Scotland....

our average consumption of alcohol per week is 15.2 units, which is roughly fifteen shots.
#31 to #25 - anon (02/05/2014) [-]
source? I just assumed it was added in for UK which is 2.3 according to OP's link.
#34 to #31 - anon (02/05/2014) [-]
population of Scotland is 5-6 million, population of England is about 60 million so do the maths.

I drink pretty often. Most people I know drink pretty often. And I know Finns, they hit it HARD.

My whole life was a lie.
Still, they must have excluded beer and wine, because if not.... I don't even.
#4 to #3 - newdevyx (02/05/2014) [-]
Most of the people i know don't drink that much and we drink only at weekends.

Shots. Of. Liquor.
#69 to #51 - anon (02/06/2014) [-]
well technically a shot is equal to one alcoholic drink such as 1 beer or a glass of wine
#39 - comradewinter (02/05/2014) [-]
I really can't bring myself to believe this. I know two guys, both pure blood South Koreans brothers who emigrated to Norway. They can handle 4 beers, and they're out. Like **** . And they have a pretty big built for asians.
User avatar #41 to #39 - articulate (02/05/2014) [-]
I hate gay people. I once met two gay people and they were total assholes. I think that's all the evidence I need.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_flush_reaction

Asians are genetically weaker to alcohol than Europeans are, as they haven't been drinking it for as long as us.
User avatar #43 to #42 - articulate (02/05/2014) [-]
>asians
Russia is in Asia. Your argument is invalid.
#44 to #43 - comradewinter (02/05/2014) [-]
Ask any Russian where Russia is. Nobody will say Asia. Most people east of the Ural Mountains don't even consider themselves part of the main Russian population. It's mostly desolate, and they are mostly Tatars and Cossacks. Only place that's fairly civilized in the Asian part is Vladivostok.

Also, I never even mentioned Russia.
User avatar #47 to #44 - articulate (02/05/2014) [-]
I don't really care what they say, Russia is in Asia. You mentioned Asia. If you want to play that way then the wikipedia page didn't mention south koreans. If you ask any south korean where south korea is they would say south of north korea.
#48 to #47 - comradewinter (02/05/2014) [-]
Russia is only partially in Asia. 80% of the population, the government, and all important faculties lie in the European part. The Wikipedia one mentions Japan and China because they're the most populous, but South Koreans are hardly different.

And the last sentence you made had no meaning whatsoever. It's about national integrity, not geographical position. Russians consider themselves Eastern Europeans, not Asians.

User avatar #93 - sovietsamurai (02/06/2014) [-]
I can actually confirm that a lots of peoples that I know are drinkers ...

So am I ...

Damn stereotype about Russians, but some, SOME are true ...
#89 - Apes (02/06/2014) [-]
This is exaggerated a little bit. Koreans consume 9.53 liters pure alcohol in the form of liquer. The most of any country. However, because they consume less wine and beer, their overall alcohol consumption rate is less than many Eastern European countries.

The countries that drink the most alcohol per head are:
Moldova: 18.22 liters
Czech Republic: 16.45
Hungary: 16.27
Russia: 15.77
Ukraine: 15.63

South Korea ranks twelfth at 14.80 liters per head, equating to 740, 50ml shots of standard 80 proof liquer per year per head. Moldova drinks 911 shots, 171 and about twenty percent more than their Korean counterparts.

Tl;dr: Eastern Europe is full of alcoholics.
