Or what if we don't realize that the real animals we have are pretty much pokemon anyway?

I get your point but the difference is still very apparent, capturing one does not make it completely loyal to you, yes this has a few minor exceptions but for the most part capturing a pokemon made it listen to your commands. You cant just walk to up to people and be like "hey, do you wanna have a battle? my cat vs your dog" nor are they're any sort of leagued competitions (that are legal) between animals other then pet shows which do not showcase the animals strength or skills other then being able to follow simple commands and look pretty. Our animals don't have any sort of unnatural powers, such as being able to shoot lighting, water, or fire from their mouths. Pokémon are also accepted in society almost as functioning members and can have jobs (like chancy in the Pokémon centers) and lastly real animals can actually die, I've yet to see a Pokémon actually die in any of the shows or games.

as I said before I get what your trying to say, more of a why wish for something you will never have when you have something similar already that is greatly underappreciated, but frankly Pokémon are way cooler then regular animals, which in my opinion are already pretty cool too

I agree with what you're saying, I guess it just depends on how you frame either scenario.

Thinking about if the pokemon world were more realistic, it might be that pokemon could really die but fights would be regulated like our boxing/karate sports. And don't get my wrong by thinking i'm agreeing with PETA's idiotic stance on pokemon (or anything), but it's interesting to think about how real pokemon would be treated in addition to how lax people in the real world are or were at places and times. Obviously the Michael Vick scenario is horrific, but there are still rooster fights and bull fights in parts of the world. **** , the romans had insane gladiator matches with animals and they were practically the America of the ancient world. I still haven't finished White 2, but i've actually agreed with alot of what team Plasma has had to say.

On the flip side, real animals have real jobs like you were saying. K-9 police dogs, seeing eye dogs, and farm horses to name afew. A british carrier pidgeon named Commando even won war medals during WW2. And even though they don't have teleport or flamethrower, alot of animals can do some crazy **** that we'd consider magic if we didn't know otherwise. I started to list pokemon moves that have real world equivalents and realized it could go on awhile.

Sorry to ramble, i'm really not trying to be an argumentative dick as much as I just like thinking about this stuff.

No actually I totally get what your saying and I guess I didn't really even think about some of the jobs that animals actually do in our world, and I am quite aware of some of the amazing capabilities of animals and it would only make sense to base pokemon moves off of actual things real animals do. I guess our animals are kinda like toned down pokemon when you think about it.
