Actually, only around 5-6 years have passed in the show.
Someone did the math, and if it actually went chronologically he'd be around 16 now.

itsbeowulftime has a point. They said he was 10 at the start of Black and White and then he somehow got dumber, forgetting basic **** like elemental advantages.
He used an episode as a single day, unless it has multiple days in it
then its not valid...we arent given a timeline in during witch an episode takes place..so unless they actually show the day night cycle it cannot be counted as a day...for all we know ash might have had several of his adventures during one day...
again, in this case the canon overtakes the math. if he had counted the confirmed days and such, then it would have been valid...

That's why I said 5-6 years, we're going off a rough estimate.
but think about it this way, there has been christmas specials, it can't take place over a year, or even a few months if there are multiple of those.
What about the ones that have episodes that proceed canonically after them?
I get your point but you are defending retarded writers you realise that right?
Sure, he could have had like all of Kanto's adventures in a week, but that would be ridiculous and probably impossible. They just made an excuse so that they could keep him ten and use him to "identify" with their child viewers.

im defending the canon. not the writer, not the show, not the franchise. just the canon and the logic behind it. counting every episode as a day or more is fallacious. disregarding the canon statements is also illogical.
but i do understand what you are getting at.

Actually, the math from that theory is based around the amount of times the sun is shown rising/going down etc. Since all series from EP001 to the most recent XY episode are canon, this can only mean that:
A) Ash steals the life force of his female companions popular fanon
B) The vast majority of the writers don't care
C) The pokémon world has some ridiculously long ******* years in their calendar system, allowing for both the fandom and the established canon to be correct Its honestly the only way I can make sense of this **** anymore

I believe that 1 year in the pokémon world has the same amount of days as several years IRL, and people age somewhat slower. It's stupid, but it's the only logical way I can see Ash travel through 6+ regions and still be ten years old.
Nah, the real fact of the matter is, they just aren't accurate
