Actually, if you watch the episode, they took a bite of a mysterious fruit they were given by Rolf right before they started tripping. My friend and i believe that it is this fruit that caused the hallucinations. Also, Rolf comes back to them while they're tripping and comments how the fruit must have been to much for "couch potato edd boys."
