But it's the opposite. Bulbasaur is the best choice.

Just because he's useful in the 1st 2 gyms doesn't mean he's going to be useful in the long run.

Type Defense
All forms of Bulbasaur have 4 types super effective against him and 4 types not very effective against him. Everything else is normal.
Charizard has 3 types super effective against him and 6 types not very effective against him. His prior to forms are 3 super and 5 not very effective.
All of Squirtles forms have 2 types super effective against him and 4 types not very effective against him.
Type Offense
All three can learn a wide variety of moves to help with type effectiveness late game, however, their best moves will be of their own type.
There are 4 types altogether that poison and grass are super effective against and only 2 that the combination is not very effective against.
There are 5 types altogether that fire and flying are super effective against and only 1 that the combination is not very effective against.
There are 3 types water is super effective against and 3 it is not very effective against.

Venosaur is the worst defensive option and offensively he is worse only than Charizard, which means the best choice is Charmander, and then it is a tie between Bulbasaur and Squirtle, depending on whether you want offense or defense.

If we talk competitively (gen 5, gen 6 changed a lot with mega evolution. Plus hasn't been, the meta hasn't been properly established yet.) venusaur is the most viable of the three, and is ou in fact. charizards 4x weakness to rock and is nothing-special stats in a stealth rock centred meta leaves him fairly useless. blatoise can wall very well in rain, with rain dish as an ability, but still outclassed.

Now, there's venusaur. Not very good defensively, but a very nice offensive type , what makes it special. chlorophyll. with this ability on sun teams, venusaur is THE most threatening of the three as it can easily sweep with access to growth, or even wall with it's now sun-driven speed it dish out leech seed, sleep powder (if it decides to hit) and giga drain.

tl;dr
venusaur is the best gen 1 starter competitively.

you also forgot the fact that venusaur has better defensive stats and HP than charizard + charizard has a quadruple weakness to rock. so overall charizard sucks dick when it comes to taking a hit.

Yeah, because you're never gonna catch other Pokemon to fight against those that are strong against your starter.

It's all about preference. All are extremely usable if you're halfway decent at playing and have at least a somewhat balanced team.

You can catch things with variety early on. You can get a Mankey to defeat Brock, and a Pikachu, from the Viridian forest, for Mysty. The starter you choose should be the main strength in your team though. A starter is a pokemon you always have in your roster and as such you want the best choice there is.

Debatable. When I used a venasaur I use it as a pivot tank and status platform. Doesn't do big damage but utility carrys hard.

He's slow though, which is worse since there are so many things super effective against him. If he was fast and had the same types it would be different since if he was at a loss on type advantage he could put the enemy to sleep before they could do anything.

I didn't have much trouble with speed. The quick claw came in handy enough. None of the starters are exactly "fast". Venasaur could combine sleeping powder with leech seed, mega/giga drain, or a poison and effectively destroy an opponent. With the poison, leech you can also swap out to a faster pokemon who then heals and can add however much high damage you want on top of a poison. Everyone significantly underestimates Venasaur. To be honest, it's harder to find a solid grass pokemon out there than it is a fire or water, or some pokemon that isn't fire or water but can combine the two with TMs.

I base how good a pokemon is from how cool it looks, and gens 1 through 5's starters' final evolutions were all the best (in my opinion), but I gotta say, I was pretty damn disappointed in the water starter for X and Y. Chesnaught all the way for Xan Y! (Water types for the others though, and Empoleon is best).

It's a ninja that can make your bitch-guin turn to rubble with it's Protean ability and access to several strong moves. My personal favorite is making steel types eat **** with Dig and a power herb. That STAB due to Protean and high base attack makes Greninja much more deadly than Empoleon could ever dream to be.

If you're going for it's normal Water/Dark typing, Flash cannon, Hydro Cannon and Surf are ineffective. With Protean, (my set at least), I carry Bounce, Surf, Dig and Dark Pulse. So it will take 2 hits to knock out Greninja while I outspeed you and make you eat **** from Dig or Dark Pulse. Since steel doesn't resist dark anymore or I can just parahax you with Bounce.

Roshi destroyed the moon at one of the world martial arts tournaments when Goku transformed, but it was restored. Then, when Piccolo was training Gohan, he transformed so Piccolo destroyed it too. So you're not wrong, you just only knew one of the times (which is weird, seeing as Roshi blew it up way before Piccolo did).
