When 9/11 happened I was in school.
(Im English btw)
The teachers were having a quiet word about it, after a while they brought in a TV and allowed us to watch the news cast telling us about the incident.

I was young.
Too young.

After I spend the whole day talking about the "Cool film they let us watch"

The teachers were disgusted when i said I wanted to watch it again

I remember that day.

We were let out early, Second grade I think. My father looked like absolute **** when he got me and my sis (he's a firefighter, went there the next day). We go home and my mom was home early from work too (worked about 2-3 blocks away from the WTC) she had it on the news, and I said "you watching star wars?" when I saw the plane hit the building. I can't exactly describe the look she gave me after that.

I was 4
Mom over-reacted
Started to cry as we watched the news
Couldn't get in touch with construction worker dad
He was assumed dead
Packed me up and we drove to grandparents
Its a 15 minute drive
She cried the whole time driving
Got in a car accident on the way there
With my dad on his way home
By far the most ****** up day I can barely remember

>Little kid with posse of awesome pet gerbils. Snowy, Raymond, Jerry and Greymon.
>Love them ******* , teach em tricks. Have a awesome mazes for them.
>Morning of 9/11 find Raymond suddenly dead in his nest.
>Heart broken. Sobbing forever. Put him in little box with cotton wool and flowers to be buried when I come back from school. Bitch mum demands I go in despite snot, tears and all manner of gunk hanging off face.
>Go in a bit late, tell friends what happened and they spread the word as to why I am upset.
> At break still crying, go outside to sit on grass and lament the loss of my wonderful gerbil. Go back inside and now every one else is crying.
>Teacher (also sniffling) tells everyone that they can go home and buses are coming to pick others up.
> I am angry as **** . Don't realise what they were so upset. Think they are taking the piss out of me or something.
>Jump up from chair and scream "STOP CRYING!! YOU DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HIM!! HE WAS MY GERBIL!!!" and storm out kicking things over like a stupid little kid.

> Friends and family take piss out of me every 9/11 from then on. Make little paper American flags with gerbils on them, light little candles and write little condolence cards about how 'Raymond was a true hero that America will never forget'.

I never really understood the entire "cry for people you dont know" thing.
I'm Danish, think i was about 8 at the time, and i remember i was playing with my brother when my mom called me from the living room, that i should come see something on TV.
I honestly didn't really care much. As a matter of fact, i only stayed to watch because i though the destruction and flames were cool.
Next day we had to have some ******** "moment of silence in honor of the dead"-thing, and all i could think of was "Why?". We're ******* Danish. Sure it was a **** circumstance for the Americans, but i cant for the life of me figure out why we Danes should give a **** .

Even as an American, i think crying is alittle much unless you knew somebody who died there...
